ParticipantWell that’s interesting! I never knew that tire manu’s did that. I ride on big knobby truck tires in my cage, so I’m used to replacing them when the knobs are half gone! That’s good stuff to know, I think some of my rider friends don’t even know that…
Elias
ParticipantSounds like I’m going to ride those OEM’s and then ask around locally what’s best for our streets after they are used up. One questions though, what are the “wear bars”?
Elias
ParticipantI understand what you are getting at, but I think you’re missing the mark. Nevertheless, I get your point. I recently got 4 new tires on my truck as well. I noticed a WORLD of difference from my old mud terrain’s to my new ones. But in a car if you take a corner really quick you have a lot more weight pushing down, and a lot more surface area touching the ground. This might make you squeal a little bit, but no biggie. That’s what was confusing me, because I never hear bikes squeal on turns, they either make the turn or go down…so I was like “How different could OEM tires be from aftermarket?” I think I got my answer
Elias
ParticipantYes, I have a better understanding now. Sounds like it’s dependent on what you will be riding in, and how you will be riding. I will be riding like a slow ass noob on dry AZ pavement all year long. But I have to keep in mind that the dry ground is replaced by dirty, dusty and sometimes sandy ground. Guess I’ll just ask some local streeters what they put on theirs.
Elias
ParticipantSo the stock tires wear down easier. Do you notice a change in ride feel after getting new tires? I guess I’m having a hard time imagining a change in traction, because while you are riding you either have it or you don’t…
Elias
ParticipantI’ve seen the triple in person and I love the style. But that twitchy throttle scares the shyte outta me!
Elias
ParticipantI agree about the ‘rolling earthquakes.’ I used to have a medium-line stereo set-up in my old rice burner, and even that would drown out emergency vehicles when I was jamming…
It’s ironic that you can’t have earbuds in when you drive a cage either, but yet you can turn your stereo up as loud as you want as long as it’s not BOTHERING other people
Our poor confused legislatures…
Elias
ParticipantHaha, I’m just picturing two people having a staring contest and then one passes out from exhaustion…”Speed was not a factor”
lol, me and my imagination
Elias
Participanthahaha, I don’t play, but i watch an awful lot of videos…especially trolling vids…hilarious. Have you seen the Ventrillo harassment with Tom Green’s “barrel roll”?

lol
Elias
Participantthat bike is so beasty it makes me want to puke… seriously, it scares me. No way you would be blind to me in a cage…I bet it sounds amazing too! congrats on the new beast!

Participantlerrrroooy jenkinssss
Elias
ParticipantOh you better believe it, you guys are such a great community, I look forward to remaining a big part of it after I get my training wheels off!
Elias
ParticipantStands (although I like elwood’s setup), air compressor, air tools, work table, GOOD LIGHTING, and the full setup of hand tools. All this in a nice open space (big shed or two car garage) with oil resistant flooring…granted, this is my future ‘dream’ setup lol
I’m a Craftsman guy, personally. I would go Snap On if they weren’t so damned expensive
Elias
Participant“But one final word — unless you’re broke, don’t buy a bike you don’t love just because you can save some cash. You’ll have wandering eyes and end up wanting to dump in a few months.”
There in lies the problem. I really like what they did to the styling of the 2009 650R as compared to the 2008. Minor cosmetic changes, yes, but to a graphic designer aesthetics are just as important as practicality. I would definitely buy used, but the used bike market is starving of 2009’s because they are so new. So, let’s pretend I was willing to go for the 2007 or 2008…they cost about $4500-5k and are almost just as hard to find as the 2009’s. If I can get the 2009 for $6k, is it worth it?
Yes, this is a question I need to answer on my own. I’m just trying to get someone to give me some concrete rationality that $1k more than a 2007 to get the 2009 won’t be worth it. Why? Because I’ve never bought new before and it’s the first time that it seems like a good deal to me (which contradicts my traditional purchasing sensibility).
I’m so weird…thanks for putting up with me
Elias
