There is no reason why a sport bike and a cruiser can’t share a lane together.
DKParticipantThere is an article linked in the above thread that discusses the potential problems with Snell’s certification program.
The most important thing is that you be happy with your helmet. It must fit comfortably and you need to feel confident that its crash properties suit your personal needs.
DKParticipantExcess material would certianly create some drag and inflation.
DKParticipantIf you are still interested in knowing more about the bikes it might be worth reading. I have always liked their approach to bike comparisons.
DKParticipantQLink is bringing out a 250 called the Megelli. The same basic bike will come in three styles – sport, naked, and supermoto. QLink is trying to build a name in the US right now too. Their approach in my area has been to try and saturate the market with economy grade scooters to build up recognition. I have not read any reviews to the quality/reliability of the vehicles.

DKParticipantOr a friend with a truck that owes you?
DKParticipantI would definitely wait for the test ride to get a real opinion on your dream bike. It may just be that you need a little more time in the saddle before you are confident in your ability to upgrade. I don’t know if you have anything like this in your area, but we have a women’s bike shop down here (Roar) that focus on the needs of women who want bigger bikes meant for taller/bigger riders. My wife and I stopped in about a year ago, and I was very impressed with their business model.
DKParticipantHow about a visual?
Not trying to hijack, but anybody see Jamie Hacking pull off the craziest near accident ever at Barber Motorsports Park?
DKParticipantDown here in FL I see a fair number of them. They are not exactly flooding the market, though. I do see a lot of older ninja 250’s on the road. I never completely trust the words that come out of the mouths of salesmen working the floor.
DKParticipantGood point on the performance difference. However, I was actually trying to think more from an aesthetic perspective than performance with my original post. The FZ6 fits the image a little better since it is a little more naked. I probably should have been more clear on my intent with those suggestions.
DKParticipantHere is a link on a review I read a while back. If you like that bike you may as well sit on the Yamaha FZ6 and Kawasaki ER-6n for comparison. While you are at it you might also try some higher ends like the Triumph Street Triple, Aprilia Shiver 750, and of course the Ducati Monster 696. I am sure there are others to fit the bill too, but I am drawing a blank right now.
DKParticipantNone of the negativity I have seen actually stems from verifiable sources.
DKParticipantTo blame the other major manufacturers. Debatable whether or not they are losing money by not offering better or more options in the 250 cc range. But, Kawasaki has a nice corner of the market with the 250 Ninja. Hyosung/UM see the potential, but need to work on their image if they are going to prove themselves comparable the big 4.
DKParticipantFL dealers do not allow test rides, even the used shops. Most private owners will let you ride if they know that it is the difference between making the sale and not. Certain manufacturers put on occasional demo rides that you can sign up for too. The ones in my area are always happen during the bike rallies.
