i think i paid somewhere round 650 for liability ONLY on my gs500… given I’m 20, new rider, and a little wreck on my license im guessing this would probably have possibly been close to your 1100 on a 750 if you got full coverage (they charge more for more CCs) :o( insurance sucks!
adrenalinerushParticipantyou can also look around to get the gs500E… this is the same bike, without the fairings….
on the other hand i have the gs500f… and admittedly did drop it twice in the first month of riding… both times i wasnt really paying enough attention and wasn’t barely moving – didnt have any damage luckily. Im not sure how sturdy they would be at anything faster than 5mph lol, but the bike is pretty easy to handle for a beginner… love it!
adrenalinerushParticipantI have a tourmaster jacket – its nothing fancy but i think its great – tag says “tourmaster FLEX series2 jacket” (womens) if ur looking for a mens jacket im assuming htey might hace something similar… but it has a mesh part that is great in the summer (im in New Mexico) – no matter what its gonna be a little hot, but it is VERY breathable… then it has a nylon inner liner that adds a little warmth and some wind protection as it cools down…and then a great waterproof/windproof overliner that just zips on and off when its cold out…. so 3 pieces in all. It was like 150 or so i think so VERY affordable for the design… good luck!!!
October 18, 2008 at 4:09 pm in reply to: bike broken-down (with 532mi on the odo) any mechanics got any ideas? #13986adrenalinerushParticipantoh yes this sounds incredibly familiar to me… i bought my 07 gs500f in june but instead of being at 500 miles the problem started immediately. I would get maybe 2 miles and then – NOTHING… stalled out and would only restart with the petcock in “prime” … the dealership had to redo the whole fuel line system and also had a problem with the carbs… seems to be running well now (after 4 shots at the shop and almost demanding a refund)…. this tends to be a known problem with the gs500, and i’ve read other articles on it jsut cant remember where now….. hope the dealer was good to you!!!
adrenalinerushParticipantI completely agree that being able to 1) have experience on a dirt bike or 2) have experience with a manual transmission are important. Before I ever learned to ride, I drove a manual for 3.5 years. That factor alone has saved me in traffic – simply being able to coordinate how to get going and how to stop (and doing each QUICKLY) is important. IT is important to have experience in traffic protected by an actual vehicle. You WILL make mistakes learning, its a lot better to make them either while your protected by fiberglass and metal around you or away from other cars/traffic so you don’t end up making it your LAST mistake :o) … either way, take your time learning and be safe :
adrenalinerushParticipantTeenage hoodlums dont even know that if you slice through the window of an unlocked soft-top jeep while the ownerr is out of town you can steal stuff from it… instead they just cut mine, emptied out the center console into the passenger seat in a neat little pile and stole only 1 thing… a fricken air freshener…. but aren’t these teenage hoodlums BRILLIANT?!?! lol they get the kick out of being destructive whether it makes them money or not :o(
October 16, 2008 at 6:14 pm in reply to: new bike question: how much deposit did you put down? #13921adrenalinerushParticipantI put about 2000 down on a total price of about 8000… payments werent bad about 150 a month… but they were almost entirely INTEREST.. which i could NOT afford! So I ended up rearranging things and paying it off early. If you MUST finance, I would recommend what a friend told me he did (too bad he didnt tell me beforehand!) … go through your bank or a credit union to get the loan instead of through the dealership.. you’ll get a LOT better interest rate and the payments will take less time to pay off the bike!
adrenalinerushParticipantnah the tank was full of gas… fortunately, after re-doing the entire fuel system it works wonderfully
adrenalinerushParticipantI think i’ve narrowed it down to pretty much deciding on the gs500. in new mexico it doesnt really get colder than 50 until october or november anyways, so the choke thing i’ve heard about shouldn’t be too much of a hassle or problem. Now, i just have to find one, sit on it and try it out…. thanks for all the help!
adrenalinerushParticipantI’m not sure you want me to actually answer whether my friends are riding above 110 on the freeways lol… but they know I’m beginning and are willing to work with me on the slow stuff first, then move up to the mountain roads to practice twisties, THEN hit the freeways (at mostly legal speeds for a while)…. you mentioned altitude… im actually out in New Mexico (at about 5500 feet, with mountains up to 11000 very nearby where my friends do tend to ride… ive never really considered how this will affect the bike being in high altitude, can you give me a little more information on this?
Also, the previous post says I could be ok on the gs500… ive read a lot about this bike and it seems that it could be a good option. what are the main handling differences I would note on a ninja 250 vs the gs500?
