I don’t see the klx250 going far on the highway…

Thanks for the added advice! The drz400 is on the top of my list. I just wish it was a little cheaper…they seem rare used. Another reason I was thinking about the KLR is the price; it is almost 1000 cheaper :p

The way I intend to use the bike would probably be about 70%road/30%off. I’d like to get to school/work (which will be highway) and have fun on it too! Thanks for your comments.

It seems that they are about the same price. I will have to suck it up and save my dough for the next half a year, though it does give me more options to look for used bikes.

What about the Kawasaki KLR 650? Doesn’t seem like it gets too wild in the reviews I have read.

I checked out the v-star and virago and decided against them.

I checked around for United Motors in my area and there are none (MN). It sounds like it would fit what I would need but it would also be hard to track down parts for I am guessing.

Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the community-it’s awesome. I am still waiting/saving for a dual sport myself.

I looked on newenough. com and it looks like they make specific saddlebags to connect to the tailbags as of 08. This is all coming together very nicely…

I tried something like underline this and it didnt work. ok it works here but it wont work in my main post, wtf?

I was reading about the DR-Z400SM. Sounds like it could do what I want. What is the difference between the S and SM?

I tried but that didn’t work…is it more complicated?

    Also

    Does this bike exist?

I want a bike that can travel on the freeway to commute to school/work. Possibly go offroad on some trails to get to some good fishing/climbing/hiking locationas with a small load of gear (backpack, 1 person tent, a little food) and somewhat cheap?

I know it will be my FIRST bike but I plan on having it for about 3 years. I can dream right?

I have been looking at at cruisers mosly but there are a few dualsport I have been considering. I have another post where I am just listing things about as many beginner bikes I can get my head around. I have a long time before I actually get the bike(about a year) so I have time…

Can you use PGP code to add italics, bolds, underlines to forum posts? If not, it would be nice to have!
