ParticipantYou’re basically going from a sportbike to what is essentially a cruiser. The sportster may be Harley’s definition of a standard but it is a far cry handling-wise from anything Ducati builds, or any non-cruiser metric bike. Just take it slow, the Harley is a heavy, slow-handling beast compared to your Ducati and isn’t capable of doing things the way you’re probably used to. It’ll take some getting used to taking it through corners (not that there are any in Florida).

Participantused helmets must be thrown away. MSF will not accept used helmets at all. once a helmet has been used in one crash it is, for all intents and purposes, useless and must be tossed.
in many states such as PA, the local MSF entities receive government assistance and everything is bought for them by tax dollars.

ParticipantPretty much any bike capable of doing two-up comfortably on the highway for extended periods is a bad beginner bike. They’re too big and heavy for first timers. Not only that but it would be a very very VERY bad idea for him to have a passenger on the back when he’s still a beginner himself. I would advise that he wait a year after starting out himself before you start getting on the back. It adds a whole new challenge to riding that is simply not wise for a beginner to take on.

ParticipantWhat kind of jacket is that you’re wearing?

ParticipantScorpion uses a weird material they call Kwikwik in the lining of their helmets. You won’t find anything like it in other helmets. It’s possible it could be the Kwikwik.

ParticipantThe GP Plus gloves are full race gloves which sacrifice a little bit of comfort for protection. The same will be true of most any glove in that price range and of boots as well. Higher end race-style boots are never as comfortable as street boots/riding shoes because they sacrifice a lot of comfort for more protection. They will feel better after break-in but will never be as comfortable as street gloves. That is the price you pay for full protection.

ParticipantI got a reply on SVrider.com about it. It is apparently a common problem with first gens losing the front cylinder in the rain because water got in the plug boot. There’s an easy fix for it though.

ParticipantThere’s an air of mysticism about the Isle of Man TT that isn’t there in any other motorcycle race, for me anyway. It’s like it’s the “no man’s land” of motorcycle racing, their equivalent to the Cannonball Run of old. The best analogy I can think of is like living in the city vs. living in the old west. Riding it must be like an adventure.

ParticipantThe engines on all V-rods are actually built by Porsche in Germany and imported to the US. The engine design of ALL current model Harleys (except for Sportsters) was a collaboration between Porsche and Harley. The Twin Cam 88 engine that replaced the Evolution in the late ’90s in all Harley big twins was also a collaboration between Porsche and Harley.

Participantsportbiketrackgear.com gives 15% off MSRP on all Icon merchandise. Put in the discount code ICON GEAR at checkout. They have a similar one for all alpinestars gear as well but I do not have the code for that.

ParticipantI don’t think a tank bag would be enough for you, but a top box like the one Ben (the site owner) has on his ZX-6R would probably be sufficient.

ParticipantHello Kitty?
You’re shitting me. Seriously.

ParticipantUnfortunately the only pair of riding jeans available in my size are Draggin’ Jeans and Diamond Gusset jeans. If I drop two more sized though then a lot of other brands will be open to me.

ParticipantI’ve gone down twice sine I started riding a year ago. Once because of kids on the side of the road pelting me with rocks as I rode by which caused me to lose control of the bike, and the other was a rear wheel lockup which led to a 25mph highside. Both the bike and I are fine. I had to replace the left side mirror and shift lever after the first crash. I wear full gear when out riding so I wasn’t hurt at all either time.
