Riding pants vs. Jeans + Underarmor

Riding pants are great. Unfortunately they’re also expensive and I only own one pair, and shopping for them is hard considering my size. So i’ve been contemplating using them less and perhaps wearing leg armor underneath my jeans such as Icon Field Armor or something else along those lines. Opinions? Suggestions?

Might be the potential abrasion issue, for the areas where the armor doesn’t cover…do you have reinforced jeans?

I started with a pair of Cortec DSX jeans…denim with perforated leather panels in strategic locations and CE armor in the knees. However, they were too baggy (no confidence the armor would stay put), so switched to Fieldsheer Titanium Air mesh pants; got ’em a size bigger, so they fit over my jeans.

Unfortunately the only pair of riding jeans available in my size are Draggin’ Jeans and Diamond Gusset jeans. If I drop two more sized though then a lot of other brands will be open to me.

Cordura fabroc, double layer over the thigh and knee, reinforced pockets, “action” gusset, and (my favorite part) cargo pockets. I wear knee/shin guards under them. Haven’t crash tested any yet, but they’re pretty substantial, breathe well (for general wear), and don’t look horrendous.
