Two things are in your favor, nice wide handlebar stance and mid positioned foot pegs, can’t see you running out of suspension as long as you don’t run out of tire grip. Avoid thick sand, don’t enter the corners too hot, be ready for it to wiggle a little and you should be just fine. Remember that transfering your weight to the pegs actually lowers your center of gravity, that might be handy if you need to ride any washboard rough road stuff.

Worked out just fine for the last 24 years. I won’t apologize for not having a lot of crash experience on the street, but i did get rear ended at an intersection in 1987 while wearing them, was still upright post impact and the feet were just fine, only the frame and tail section were a write off and my upper body bruised.

Regular weight leather with an added rubber sole. In cold weather I double up on socks but they are in no way intended for impact protection as my competition boots are. The mocs are strictly for comfort walking and normal street riding, where I have no intention of needing them for anything else. Moc boots are still far better than running or dress shoes because when your pant legs ride up they still offer shin protection from stones, abrasion or engine hot parts and certainly won’t fall off your feet. I do all my rough and tumble riding on the dirt where I always wear my Gaerne’s, especially since Trials bikes have very aggressive, sharpened teeth for foot pegs.

Unlike motocross boots the Trials boots are far more comfortable and flexible at the ankle than a motocross boot. The Trials boots offer ample impact protection but have no steel toe clips ( which is super slippery on pavement surfaces ) In foul weather conditions I have worn them for street riding and they are nearly waterproof. ( The Gaerne’s are brown leather and don’t look anything like power ranger boots ;)

Wind pressure increases with the wind speed or the motorcycle speeding through it and the motorcycle least affected by wind is the one that is designed wind slippery, hopefully with a rider on board and sitting fairly upright.

As noted by others already, wind gusts present a far greater challenge and require the most skill and attention to counter measure. Ultimately, the only way to deal with wind that you aren’t cutting through is to slow down, which in turn reduces the wind pressure but does not preclude your need to deal with it. With experience you learn to limit the time spent in the draught of transport trucks, as they create tremendous buffeting wind turbulence from unpredictable directions.

Another thing I find very useful is to lean the bike into the wind more than your body, this keeps the wind blast off your chest and causes less swerve, particularly from oncoming truck traffic on 2 lane highways. People riding with and behind me have even commented on how little the wind seems to affect me, compared to what they are experiencing.
…although I do have a full fairing on a very wind slippery bike.

My wife tells me high heel shoes are totally impractical and uncomfortable anytime, but I sure do like seein em on a lady :) …in support of anyone determined to wear heels on a motorcycle, personally I never touch down more than a toe anyway and never, ever drag a foot when coming to a stop or start, so in theory it should not matter, at least once you become a proficient rider. Could you twist or break an ankle falling over on them, absolutely.

Eon, maybe you could find someone nearby with a truck that would like to get into Trials as well. (2 for 1)

Trials riding is a terrific full body exercise !;)
A great way to cross train for motocross, enduro and road racers.
Trials bikes consume very little fossil fuel.

Some things you can see in a Trials competition that you just won’t find in speed motor sport competitions: Riders in direct competition to each other, regularly offer advice, encouragement and ‘catch’ for fellow competitors.

Caution: Trials is extremely addictive and does tend to render all other motor sports slightly boring.

If you care to see what Minnetonka Mocassin Boots look like on, there are numerous Paparazzi shots of supermodel Kate Moss wearing them. lol …I couldn’t find any pics of people actually wearing the not so ‘crazy’ Power Ranger Space boots in public ;)

I have the pair I’m wearing now ( under my pant legs) and another pair that have lasted me 20 years. If you purchase the non-soled models, I recommend having a shoemaker glue on plain rubber soles for better grip, wear and comfort.

The fact that you even know that BMW makes motorcycles speaks volumes ;) You did not mention cost limitations but did mention safety and reliability. Buy yourself a nice Beemer and consider it a lifetime bike, something you can leave to your kids, grand-kids or if you don’t have any of those, you can leave it to me, I plan to ride until i’m at least 80

At the risk of raising some debate here, IMHO knee high anything is best suited to motorcycles. This coming from a guy (me) who regularly refers to running shoes as ankle twisters. High traction soles make no sense to me on a boot that offers zero ankle support. I wear Gaerne boots for competition riding and a 18″ high moccasin boot with a thin flat rubber sole the rest of the time. ( Minnetonka Mocassins on line ~82$ – Gaerne Balance ~330$ – Gaerne Street Boots ~200$ )

Still section 1 going back up the hill, had to go over a large rock wedged between those 2 close together trees in the middle of the frame, loop up and around the checker at top left and back down again. Notice the feet still up :) …that is a good thing ;)

CV carbs don’t have chokes that block off the air inlet, they have a fuel enriching passage that dumps raw fuel into the intake passageway. Your carbs are not passing fuel through the main jet and venturi where they should be, so by applying the ‘choke’ you are giving it the fuel it needs to run, but not well.
I have no experience with the Sea Foam product Jeff speaks highly of, only tons of practice cleaning carbs the hard way.
