Or at least this is what they said in MSF class. However, while up shifting you can “drop” the clutch all you want. On a motorcycle, down shifting is a more delicate process. On a motorcycle when down shifting, the clutch needs to be eased out slooooowly. I guess from your question you know what will happen when you try dropping the clutch when down shifting. Another tip is………2nd gear is your friend when it comes to making turns(like maybe at intersections). Even in a car the same applied when I drove the ol Mustang GT 5.0. I may get flamed for this advice, however, when I need to slow down I don’t down shift (from like lets say 4th gear) to a stop. What I do is pull in the clutch kick it all the way back down to neutral(or 1st gear depending on the situation). Some real advice as well is get into a MSF class, soooon as possible. Sounds like it’ll be good for you.

…but harleys kick @ss in my opinion. They have a special look and style about them that I haven’t seen the Japanese Company’s contend with. You add 105 years of heritage and you may answer your own question. As far as the SPEED channel is concerned. I agree that they should show an objective view in reviewing any kind of motorcycle. And personally, the Rocker is not one of the best in the line up in my opinion. The question I humbly place before you is, how much of those 30 min did you stay tuned in? : ^ )

Now, assuming that you saw this page……
    https://www.bestbeginnermotorcycles.com/beginner-motorcycles-dont-look-beginner-motorcycles
…and you still don’t like any thing there(don’t feel bad, I didn’t either)…I suggest these
Honda Shadow Aero…(the biggest that most people say you should go)
    http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycles/cruiser_standard/model.asp?ModelName=Shadow+Aero&ModelYear=2008&ModelId=VT750C8
    V-Star 650 Classic

    Hyosung GV650
    http://www.hyosungmotorsusa.com/newsNservice/service_hotproduct.asp
Or my favorite Hyosung GV250(proud owner)
    http://www.hyosungmotorsusa.com/product/introduction.asp?Cat=Cruise&model=GV250
More Alternative Cruisers Johnny Pag 250-300cc motorcycles
    http://www.johnnypag.com/
And the bike my friend started on
    http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/2008_Motorcycles/2008_Motorcycles.jsp?locale=en_US

Just a few selections and alternatives out there for the picking.

Believe me when I tell you. You are going to get a lot of…start 250cc or no bigger than 500cc. If you were shopping in the sport bike market I would agree. However, as for cruisers, a friend who is a little younger than you are started on a 883 Harley Davidson. In my opinion, if you’re pretty tempered in driving. You’ll more than likely be the same on a bike. Speaking of driving, in California your driving record will determine your rate of insurance on a bike(of course other aspects as well like your neighborhood, length of time you’ve had a license, etc.) Don’t know if it’s the same in your state. If so, hope you been keeping the moving violations to a minimum.LOL As far as gear goes, you’ll pay as much as you do or don’t…will or won’t shop around. I think a fair estimate for Helmet, gloves, jacket, and boots can range from around $400-1000. Depends on how deep your pockets are. Condo you said? Yours seem deep enough. LOL : ^ )

What makes America great??? Freedom of Speech. I think people need to lighten up. It seems you can’t post anything other than the “mainstream beliefs” before the politically correct-ees swarm in as if they know you from a couple of lines they read…..then attack.

One thing I’ve learned about riding a motorcycle and being part of the fraternity of bikers. Everyone has an opinion of what you should start on. These opinions vary from the far left to the far right. This guy started on a 250….that guy started on a Harley……this guy started on a Duc. Different strokes for different folks. An uninformed decision is the dangerous one.

I think people are too quick to judge and jump to conclusions when YOU make a decision for YOURSELF, then OTHERS deem it as if you are making it for the whole world. Or, someone may look at what you did and do the same thing. There is only 1 man I know who came to live for the world. You nor I are Him(and that’s if you even believe in Jesus).

I think you should continue your thread and let us know(HERE) how your experience is with your Duc…..Good and/or bad. This is the bike you chose to begin on. This the Best Beginner Motorcycle Forum. I’m listening ; )

Those look like removable ones. Doesn’t seem like you need brackets, either. Even with me owning a cruiser I never liked the way old school saddle bags look. In my opinion, it makes every bike look the same. (once again just my opinion). These are nice looking and best of all; look detachable.

(Your e-penis is huge????? More than laughing out loud)

It’s funny because the instructor who was over the written part asked how many of us had ridden before. After we raised our hand, she said (jokingly) that you guys are our worse students. I’m not disappointed in the class. The MANY distractions in the class were more to blame in my opinion.

I wanted to be DRILLED on what we were learning. I wanted my faults to be pointed out when I made errors, then what to do to correct them. I got the old PAT ON the BACK whether I FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS or NOT. Maybe when they asked me if I knew how to ride, I should have kept it to myself. Would have been pretty hard since I rode it to school.LOL

IS THIS THE POST WHERE I SUPPOSEDLY SAID WHERE YOUR HEAD SHOULD GO??????
On September 24th, 2008 smokeizfire says:

??????? Another misrepresentation. Another attack that I am suppose to be civil about. As long as this is America, I may defend myself with vulgarity as I please! And perhaps, you may not want to know where I think you should go.

KIRK, ONCE AGAIN YOU GOT IT WRONG. YOU MUST SKIM WHEN YOU READ, FOR IT SEEMS YOU CAN’T READ EVEN A FEW SENTENCES CORRECTLY. WHEN OR WHERE DID I MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR HEAD. YOU TOLD ME WHERE YOU THINK I SHOULD GO IN YOUR POST(“……If you value most everyones opinion on this site as little as you say you do….(NEVER SAID THAT EITHER BTW)…. then perhaps you should visit another site., SO I SAID IN RESPONSE……. YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW……AGAIN….DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHERE I THINK YOU SHOULD GO. READ IT CORRECTLY SO YOU MAY RESPOND CORRECTLY.
