I test rode both the Thruxton and the Bonneville when buying my first bike. In the end I liked the more upright riding position of the Bonneville a little better than the Thruxton, though I really liked the look of the Thruxton. Both bikes are very nimble, easy to maneuver, very forgiving and user friendly. They are both fun to ride without being stupid fast. If would suggest taking one for a ride if you haven’t already. You will never know until you try one out yourself :)

But still, I thought it was a lot of fun to ride. It was definitely on my short list until I took the Bonneville for a spin and decided that was the one for me.

… is the sellers comments.. “It’s not been running for a while and the clutch cable is disconnected, so you’ll have to get it started. It comes with a New Battery and a Brand New Rear Tire. Bottom line…get it running (no parts required) and it’ll run for a very long time.

Well Sir.. if it is that darned easy why don’t you connect the clutch cable, get it running yourself and sell it for more than $800. Sounds to me like a seller who figures he is much better off if a perspective buyer can’t get it running before shelling out the $$ and discovering what problems it really has.

Chances are the bike will need at least a top end rebuild costing you about $800-$1,000. Total engine rebuild could cost you $1,200 to $1,800. Hopefully you could get away with just the top-end, but chances are that it will cost you at least double the asking price to get it on the road and maybe more. Owner claims the bike has been laid down a few times, but with no noticeable damage, but if it has ’04 plastic on it, chances are the damage was more noticeable at one point than the owner is admitting.

I own a pair of Olympia Airglide 2 Overpants which are waterproof, windproof and have a thermolite insulated liner pant

I also have a pair of Hood Concept 6 Jeans. These are kevlar lined with Knox CE armor in the hips and knees. Very comfortable. It seems they have discontinued the Concept 6 though. Not sure why. Maybe price as it was the most expensive pair.

I looked at one of those and took it for a test drive. It was an absolute blast. Came really close to buying one. How are you liking it?

Too much to do today, but 50’s for the next 4 days, so definitely getting some riding in!

I just found this site today. Looks like some interesting information!

I will post a formal introduction of my own, but wanted to say Hi. I recently took the MSF course myself in September. I purchased an ’07 Triumph Bonneville end of November. I have been riding it as much as I can when weather permits, but no problems with the carbs at altitude. SCR may be on to something with cleaning the carbs though. An acquaintance was having some issues with a used bike he had purchased. It had been sitting for awhile. He rand 3 or so tanks through with SeaFoam added and the poor running seems to have resolved itself.
