If you’re a complete noob to riding, avoid the gsx. the 650r is a more noob friendly bike. p-twin engine with a less twitchy throttle.

Gardening gloves will work provided they go over your wrists. If you have a leather pair that does that, you’re golden.

Yah, budd’s right. There’s deals out there too be had. I’d just add, if you have a motorcycling buddy who’d done some wrench work, bring him/her along to check for non-obvious things. And actually, mechanically, there isn’t much difference between a 98 ninja 250 or a 2007 ninja 250. They were pretty much unchanged until 2008. So just make sure the condition of the bike isn’t fubared.

There’s a few people on this board that ride gs500f bikes. They like it. Ben started on one as well. I don’t think you’d be going wrong if you chose that bike. It’s certainly a much better first time rider bike choice than cbr600rr. Just have fun at the MSF and gear up before riding. Enjoy!
