The one thing I’ve learned about riding on the highways, cities, and medium sized towns are that other motorists are out to get you… data-lazy-src=

It’s not really unreasonable to think not wearing a helmet can cause accidents. Debris, bugs, etc. fly everywhere. I especially see all the critters that hit my face shield. Mostly small, but some big splats as well. I’ve had my visor cracked by some rock kicked up by a car in front of me. I can see a rider getting startled and yanking onto oncoming traffic or just losing control and binning it. Mostly though I don’t care if a rider wears gear or not. I’ve lived through the seat belt law and helmet law fights and honestly didn’t care one way or the other if they passed or not. I personally do both though. But to say there’s no circumstance where not wearing a helmet can not cause an accident would be short sighted. There’s a vid on youtube were a rider bins his bike. He was going fast, but not stunting. He had a helmet on, but with the visor up. He explained that a bug hit his eye and he lost control. Luckily, he didn’t hit any other cars.

Mebbe ear plug related. I noticed for me using either my cx400 earbuds and cheap thin foamies, I’d get aches in my jaw. Found some cheap orange plugs that work fine and have had no cheek discomfort since. Another thing is that you don’t want to stuff ear plugs in your ear. You kind of want to wet them a bit and twist them in. Don’t shove them all the way in though. I bet if you got custom fitting plugs, you’d not get this issue either.

Worrying about shifting after emergency stopping will lead you to getting ass packed in traffic. Srsly, practice getting into gear while in the process of emergency stopping so you can take off to an escape route from a stopped position immediately.

Any kawi service center can probably install a brake light modulator. As far as brighter lights, a bulb replacement should be fine. From what I’ve heard, after market bulbs are usually brighter than OEM stock bulbs… Although you’ll want to look into the law regarding motorcycle lights. There might be some DOT regulations and whatnot…

Hiya and welcome! It is addicting as heck… Pretty soon, you’ll be taking the scenic route to work or something instead of the direct route and wondering why you’re filling up the bike more… data-lazy-src=

Personally, if your “riding” buddies are making you keep up, you need to find new riding buddies. Just my opinion, but riding buddies should never make you keep up at and/or past your comfort level and ability. Other than that, fine post.

Personally, never listen to anyone who tells you in seriousness you have a girl’s bike. Like said before get what suits you best at the point in time you’re in. I, myself, am planning on having a stable of horses of different types of bikes.

My immediate plans are to get an 08 sv650sf for track and then a motard. Met some peeps that ride dirt and that looks fun as hell. After that a cruiser of some sort… not sure what though. I like the aesthetics of HDs. I’ll look totally funny in full leathers, though. But who the hell cares? It’s my ride and if you look in the vids and pics section, there’s a vid of a dude knee draggin’ at the track on a goldwing. :-P

    Edit: I think I’d rather get a duc first before a cruiser bike… :-P

hrm… being dot certified but not having the dot sticker… sounds like bad policy to me, considering johnny law would probably be looking for that sticker to be displayed prominently… If you really like the helmet, I’d fire off an email to that company and tell them about this.

That’s the exact same one I’m looking at. They have them at Santa Clara Cycles on El. Camino. Hit up Doug and see what he can do for you on it.
