Do i need to get riding pants to prevent road rash in a crash or can i just wear some armor for protection and put jeans on over them. i was thinking about getting full gear except on pants and just buying specific armor like the Icon Field Armor Short 2 and the Knox Cross Guard Knees.

(For any of the other vertically/ inseamed challenged Rev’it now makes petite armored pants)
Have you looked into the kevlar reinforced jeans?
http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/sport/kevlar+motorcycle+jeans/fieldsheer_rider+kevlar+reinforced+jeansit will give you a little more abrasion resistance then normal jeans

i have knee/shin guards under jeans with textile pants over everything… the knee guards that came with the pants would move around too much for my taste…
it is a pain to put on the armour (but you could conceivably leave them on all day, not that uncomfortable). Armour by itself does nothing to stop road rash though, so if that is your main concern you will need to get some form of pants.
Additionally, I am guessing the armour’s straps would get shredded by the pavement and then you’ve got nothing
