I have never really noticed that until you said yours makes that creaking noise. I have had mine for about a year and a half now. But this does not surprise me I plan on replacing it anyways with something better.
hawkeye206649ParticipantThanks for the input guys. Mostly I do inner city riding so the Ninja will most likely be my choice
hawkeye206649ParticipantWow I would stay away from that dealer if they are trying to convince you that you should start on a 900. I have an older Ninja 250R that I use for mainly commuting around town and I find it comfortable.
It has plenty of power to cruise around town with or to take rides on the freeway. I’m about 5′ 8″ and 270 pounds and It does a good job moving me around. If you think it will be too small you can take a look at a Ninja 500R or Suzuki GS500
hawkeye206649ParticipantCongrats on passing your MSF!! When I passed my MSF I purchased an 06 Ninja 250R. I mainly due city riding on mine so at most I spend 45 mins riding at a time. At 5’8 and 270 pounds I still find it to be a comfortable ride.
When I do ride on the freeways I do notice that it’s easy to be pushed around in strong winds or when a big truck passes me. After a while you will get used to it and be able to adjust to it.
For me the bike has enough power for what I use it for and I have had it for about 6 months now. I would recommend that you got to a dealership and sit on one and see how its feels to you.
As far as the YZF-R6 its a beautiful bike but from what I read its powered by an inline four cylinder and as a good rule of thumb beginners should stay away from them. You can read this article about why its not a good idea to start with a 600
https://www.bestbeginnermotorcycles.com/why-600cc-motorcycle-not-good-beginner-bike-updatedIf you still think the 250R is too small you can also look at the Suzuki GS500F I hope my little knowledge answered your question If not im sure some of these other guys can help you out. What ever you go with I hope you have a fun and safe ride
hawkeye206649ParticipantI was wandering the same thing when I was making my choices for my first bike. A few things helped me make up my mind.
First this was gonna be my first bike so it doesn’t have to be the fastest thing on the block just able to get me to point A to B. When I ‘m ready to move up I will trade this one in and get a better bike.
I’m a big guy too around 270 pounds. Me and my Ninja do just fine going down the highway at 70+ speeds. I do notice that there really isn’t much left, but this is my first bike so I don’t really need to be going any faster.
At 5’8″ the 250R fits me well both feet on the ground with no problems. The reach to the bars is just right as well. I was able to find a used 06 model for around $3,300 so you should be able to find one that’s under your price range.
Just like the other guys said I would also recommend you take an MSF course. It help me alot.
hawkeye206649ParticipantI didn’t notice that. When I was taking my MSF I was told to always use both brakes. But if it helps gives me more control i’m all for it.
hawkeye206649ParticipantI was in the parking lot when I went down. I grab both brakes to hard but if I remember I think i did alot of front braking.
hawkeye206649ParticipantI passed my MSF course and got my M1 back in June. I didn’t get my bike a 2006 Ninja 250R until mid October. I took it out to a parking lot to do some practice on my turns when I went down.
After I picked myself up and my bike which only had damage to the front fender and side fairing, I evaualted what went wrong. When I was making my turn I was coming in too fast so I over braked, I was mainly wanting to avoid the grass so I was fixated at the grass and not looking at where I wanted to go and I had a low side fall.
I was fine only thing was I was wearing my jeans and just at like 30mph they had a hole at my knee where I hit the ground. So I’m really looking into getting some good over pants now. From now on when ever I make turns I be sure to look exactly where I wanna go.
I did notice after my fall I was worried the first few times I was riding but after that I just was able to overcome my fears
hawkeye206649ParticipantMost dealers will charge you state Taxes, a Title transfer fee and License fee to get your plates and registration.
hawkeye206649ParticipantI checked the turn signals and all of the bulbs are blinking it’s just that both front and rear on the right side blink faster. I also checked for any binds in the throttle cable. I didn’t see any thing so I guess it just needs a good lubing Once I get the bike looked at and some new tires put on I plan and taking it out and practice my shifting. Also does anyone know where I can get like a screw kit some of the screws are missing for the fairings?
Thanks for all the help!
hawkeye206649ParticipantWhats up with that no kind of gear on at on. I guess since they are in the emergency lane they think its ok. First time i have seen a side cart on a sports bike
hawkeye206649ParticipantGrats on the ninja, how long did it take for you to find one? Looks like your gonna have some fun with that one.
hawkeye206649ParticipantThanks for the advice. I wish I could have a co – signer but my parents are looking for a new car themselves so thry don’t want to sign on two vehicles I also tried for a loan at the bank where I have my checking account but they couldn’t help either. At this point I think I’m going to have to save up and buy a used bike
hawkeye206649ParticipantWow nice bike looks like you should have plenty of good times with that one. I like the candy blue paint job. Grats on the new bike!
