BouncingRadicalParticipant
My final day of the MSF it rained hard. The only part that really sucked was I had dirt tires on at the time and I lost alot of points on my braking test at the end. Other than that riding in the rain isn’t so bad. Mist is alot worse, as we discussed earlier.
BouncingRadicalParticipantPlease do not speak in all caps.
Also, are you trying to start it in the cold. My KLX250s has the same carb and engine as the 250cc Ninja. They are a bitch to start in the cold. Have you had it for a while and this is new or did you just come into this bike and trying to fire it up. I usually keep the choke out till it reaches about 5k RPM when it is cold. If it has sat for awhile get some carb cleaner in the tank and drain the bowl on the carb if you have trouble starting. It is a little Allen screw on the bottom of carb. Again let it rev for a while with the choke when it is cold.
BouncingRadicalParticipantFinger squeegee, I am going to have to get one of those for sure!
BouncingRadicalParticipantHa! Must be hard times when a news satire site is ripping off another news satire site.
BouncingRadicalParticipantDid you over torque the rocker arm? If it was too tight it may have bound up and when the cam went to push it, it snapped.
I don’t think temp would have had much to do with it, if it went on a fourth heat cycle (cold to hot then back), then better it went in your driveway than on the road.
I guess try getting a telescopic magnet and try to fish out those pieces. It would suck to have to tear open your engine just for those pieces, but it would give you an opportunity to clean everything throughly.
Best of luck, sounds like a tough situation.
BouncingRadicalParticipantWhat kind of enduro do you have now that only tops out at 55? Just out of curiosity.
BouncingRadicalParticipantThanks for y’alls input!
BouncingRadicalParticipantRight now the Temp is around 30 F, and it was 105 F during the summer. I am going to be relocated and don’t know where, but it can only get colder from Houston I’m sure. I have a high tolerance for heat but generally a low tolerance for cold.
BouncingRadicalParticipantThe MSF put on by your state is probably waaay cheaper than the Harley. I know in LA it was, I think I paid 30 bucks and the ‘Rider’s Edge’ was a few hundred. I couldn’t have asked for better instructors either, I guess at a Harley dealership you gotta pay for the brand still.
BouncingRadicalParticipantThe Patch?
BouncingRadicalParticipantDouble post, sorry.
BouncingRadicalParticipantThe Yamaha wr250 is a good powerful 250 DS, not too much top end but good grunt. I have a KLX 250s, while a little underpowered without a few mods, it is nice and tall! I am 6′ 0″ and could only flat foot it after breaking in the shocks a bit on the trails. I think the WR is only slightly shorter. I know they make the KLX250 (KLX250sf) in motard fashion, but not the WR 250
For around the city, I would totally get a DRZ motard. Throw a tail rack on it and you got a fun and nimble commuter/learner.
BouncingRadicalParticipantIf the throttle is frozen, taking it off the handle bars is pretty simple. If it has sat covered for a while, something might have made it’s home in the space between the throttle and the handle bars and crudded it up. While the throttle is off pull the push and pull cables and observe how they act down at the carb. Squirting a little WD-40 down the sleeve at both ends and working the line would help alleviate problems in the sleeve, if there are any. My bet is the throttle is seized and a disassembly and cleaning would help out your situation a good bit.
If it’s anything like mine (Kawasaki KLX250), the hardest part is keeping the pull cable in place when putting it back together. Just remain patient and it will go smoothly. I know the ninja 250 has the same carb setup as mine.
Good luck, and if you don’t feel confident doing it yourself take it to a shop.

Click the brand and a chart will show the inseam of the people riding the bike. Will also list mods that helped make it fit, if necessary. Not totally complete but does have a ton.
BouncingRadicalParticipantIf the guy put it into storage correctly (closing the gas tank petcock) then all you need to do is drain the gas tank, put in a carb/FI cleaner additive in the new gas. You can probably just syphon it out as mentioned by Elwood or you can take the tank off and dump it out. I also agree with Elwood on replacing the fuel filter.
If the guy just parked it one day and didn’t turn the fuel petcock off. After sitting for five year I would take the carb out for a clean/rebuild. Also do the fuel filter, new gas and additive.
If not kept in doors I would also check out your fork seals, how rusty the chain is. Check out the airfilter and see if the tires look dry rotted. Change the oil/oil filter as well. Check your brake fluid and your fork action to make sure they are acting fine.
I’m sure you have done most of this, just brain dumping.
