ParticipantWould you prefer a bumblebee edition?

ParticipantI started on a 600cc Super Sport…I’m doing just fine. Though I really don’t recommend doing what I did, I’m just trying to point out that it’s not impossible to learn on a Super Sport.
Try going for a Ninja 650r. Great beginner bike that offers the power of a sport motorcycle.

ParticipantWell, it didn’t take me horribly long…Maybe an hour, but most of it was just experimenting with different things. The exhaust was the trickiest part!
Thanks for the feedback
You should try foolin’ around again on your bike, it should come out kind interesting. You never know.

ParticipantWell, the most dangerous part in crashes is the actual fall, NOT the sliding. Leather and soft armor protect you in the sliding, so you don’t have some major road rash, but the impact when you actually hit the pavement can still do a lot of damage. Think about it: Those GP guys walk away from crashes like it was nothing, but remember: they were barely inches from the ground due to their extreme lean angle (and their knee was practically already on the pavement). So their falls are all sliding, and both soft and hard armor protect you from sliding.
To be honest, you should just wear soft armor, and get hard armor on your knees and elbows. Some really protective gloves wouldn’t hurt either.

ParticipantI think you meant to post the actual image and not the un-clickable thumbnail of the pic…
That is a nice bike indeed, but for some reason, that exhaust really throws me off. I love a clean look, much like the 05-07 ZX-6r or the CBR 1000rr that I posted earlier. They have an undertail design.

ParticipantActually, you SHOULD have a full tank of gas (preferably high octane) and dump the indicated amount of stabilizer. As far as I’ve heard, that’s what you should do.
Here’s a GREAT guide for storing your bike for the winter: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Trailers.html#Storage
I quote from that site “Gasoline oxidizes as it ages. This produces varnish as a byproduct, which is bad for carburetor jets and fuel injector outlets. To avoid this use a fuel stabilizer. Add the amount recommended on the bottle in the tank and fill the tank completely with gasoline – a full gas tank won’t rust internally. Run the engine for a couple minutes to warm up the engine oil and to get the stabilizer into your carbs/fuel injectors. “
Hope that helps.

ParticipantThe SV650 is one of the most recommended bikes. In my honest opinion, you probably could have handled the 650 from the start.
But the answer to your question is definitely yes, it’s a great bike. These bikes get rave reviews about it’s friendliness, and it’s ability to satisfy speed freaks. And since it’s from Suzuki, I wouldn’t expect any quality issues.
I myself ride a ZX-6R as my first ride, and I’ve handled it quite well so far. Never laid it down (knock on wood). My zixxer gives me more than enough power, but it’s the same concept. You just need to respect the bike. Respect the bike, and it just might respect you back. ; )
I doubt you’ll have any problems with a SV650. But may I recommend that you also look at a Ninja 650r? In my opinion, it looks way better, and it has great performance. It’s the most solid (not suspension-wise) thing I’ve ever ridden. My friend owns one, and it’s awesome. It has a more upright position than a super sport, but it rides like one. Give it a try at a dealer.
Hope that helps some.

Hmmm…I kinda like the ring to it.

ParticipantThanks for clearing that up, Andrew; I forgot about that. But yeah, the new one has a posture that’s nearly identical to the ZX line.

My main concerns about the new Ninja 250 is that it has a carburetor, crappy wheels, and an ugly exhaust. Though the exhaust thing can be arguable, I don’t think anyone would prefer the carburetor to a fuel-injected engine, just like someone wouldn’t prefer the stock wheels to…well, better wheels.

ParticipantWe have a cold front down here as of late, and everyone here is dying because of the 50 degree weather!
(including me)
I hate the cold. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some snow in winter, but this is Florida! It’s supposed to be effin’ hot all year round! 50 degrees makes my balls shrivel up. (not that you needed to know that)
