There’s the rook-ness showing through. I definately meant the FZ6R not the FZ6
THErookParticipantI really appreciate the input from everyone and take my BRT in two weeks! I’m so ready to get my endorsement so I can get to riding. Not to throw a wrench into the works on anything but I was talking with a few guys who have been riding for a while and one of them suggested the Yamaha FZ-6 as a good starting point as well. Any thoughts on that one?
THErookParticipantI’m taking the BRT through team Oregon shortly. I do plan to take the intermediate and advanced eventually as well as the racing school they offer so as far as instruction I should be a regular walking manual in a few seasons. It’s just making the decision on a first bike has proved to be tougher than I had origionally thought but from the input I’ll put the CBR on the wait list along with my dream R6
THErookParticipantI appreciate the input. After a bit more reading I’m learning the CBR is a bad beginners bike although I’ve had some recommend it to me. To be clear they were suggesting the F NOT the RR. Either way. The GS500 seems to be the one that stands out as the best beginner friendly bike. I know that the Ninja 250 is the unanimous decision as the best beginner bike although I’ve heard it isn’t the best if you plan on being on the freeway at some point and as a commuter I do plan to be on the highway quite a bit. Any other input is appreciated but great work so far.
THErookParticipantNot trying to spam but this is the most comprehensive guide i’ve seen to use when evaluating a used bike. Hope this helps,
THErookParticipantI hear so much about this twist of the wrist book. Anyone have a copy they’d like to pass on to a new rider? (Not trying to thread jack)

Of course everyone wants to be able to start on a 600cc but at the same time, would you want to learn to drive a stick in a lambo? In short the answer is of course… what people fail to realize is a lambo has a syncro-mesh tranny and a throttle more sensitive than asphalt in road rash. You’ll be at 80 mph before you’re across the intersection. Not to mention an oil change is ten grand. Obviously the comparison in price is drastic but with a bike like a Gixxer, yamaha R series, or a kawi ZX all of these bikes are NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Plain and simple. I too am a beginner and am more than happy to ablige to the THOUSANDS of PROFESSIONAL and vetran riders alike pleading for beginners to get a smaller bike. I rode a ninja 500 last weekend and let me promise you that you will not be sick of the power that bike can deliver in 3 days. Don’t become another statistic. Rethink your choices and take the 5-7 grand you will save on buying a smaller bike first and buy some really good gear for when you do upgrade. Just my $.02
