stuParticipant
the er6n is just ninja650, does the riding position change from ninaj250 to er6n?
you want an sv650
stuParticipantyeah google says

stuParticipantwhat you need is a spanking red ural with sidecar. you know you want some kickstart loving, a dog with goggles riding beside you…
stuParticipantwhat possessed you to buy a sportster 883 for a beginner bike in the first place?
stuParticipantI’m not the biggest fan of break in.. The SFV650 had something like ‘dont ride over 1000 rpm for the first 700 miles and be reaaaaaly gentle’.. I was like ‘uh… gotta get to work..’ I did try and keep it under 5k rpm for the first 10 miles.. the factory recommended break in was ridiculous, but neither was I going to do 100mpg and 9k revs for extended periods
stuParticipantits a sleeved down ninja650, same weight, same everything, just less CC’s. all they did was import the japanese 400cc bike.
the little gladius is again, identical weight everything, just sleeved down.
imp its not worth it for the same weight, shame they did not mill a real 400cc engine.
stuParticipantso a “little more grunt but not too much” means to you going to a 1500cc m90??!:!:! wow. that does 82horses, the bandit does 104.. The GS500F does 47… I’d say the bandit and M90 exceed your “not too much”. The M50 has 56… but you know your capability best.. and the bandit is sure sexy looking
stuParticipantdid my MSF on the gn125 (red version), I think outside of MSF it would be like riding a scooter, underpowered and anemic. as for uphill at decent speeds, I dont know if the GN125 is that strong, you’d have to gear down a lot. You’d probably be better off with one of those 250’s ybr/fazer 250, but a year on teh gn125 would be good fun and you could put the difference between it and the others to some good gear and maybe toward next years upgrade
stuParticipantbut those shoes in the pic have next to NO sole. Its one thing to get a platform SOLE so you stand higher flat footed, its another for a high heel. Thats what I was talking about, how practical is a high heel, you dont flat foot on your heels, its toes/ball/all foot first, not heels first.
stuParticipanthow practical are high heeled shoes for motorcycles? don’t they take away from the stability??
stuParticipantI have not thought much of it. I have foam plugs for shooting which block out a lot. I’ve always relied on my hearing and foam plugs irritate me after a while, hurt my ears.
Do you have custom plugs or just foam squishies?
stuParticipantThe SFV650 is my first bike and I love it. You got to give that Suz VTwin much respect or it will dump you on your ass. The clutch has a wide band making control really easy, the gearbox is smooooth and very forgiving. The tyres it comes with are fantastic. Stock suspension is soso. I’ve got my gsxr rear shock ready to be installed which apparently makes a world of difference, if so, it will be my best $50 spent on ebay everyone on svrider raves about the change.
Do I love it as a beginner bike? hell yeah, but I commute 80 miles a day on it over the mountains and needed something that wouldnt struggle. Should I have got a 250cc to start on, I’d say unequivocally yes. But I _dont_ regret starting on the SFV650! I love it.
What would I change if I could? Wet weight is heavy but any bike once you get over the 250cc starts to get into the same weight range and even higher, plus, the bike pushes its own weight so it isnt really that big a deal (and yeah I’ve picked it up by myself, all 140lbs/5’5″ of me).
The whole “catching it” deal I think is wrong, but a natural reaction and I wouldn’t let it factor in to bike choice.
If the bike is going down, let it go down and just get clear, better scratches on the bike than torn muscles and ligaments because you wanted to try and ‘catch’ it. Save yourself first, worry about the bike later.stuParticipantI’m not disparaging that, as I said the classic 350 in bright red is super sweet, and its great to see a step up from the 250’s. They just have a very niche market, too expensive for too little imo, and by that I dont mean everyone has to manufacture a 600cc supersport or die out.
stuParticipant500cc for 28hp… oooh its a one cylinder thumper. I think if I was going for something like that I’d prefer the classic 350.
looking at Royal Enfield every model they offer is a single cylinder.
stuParticipantMy wife has the predecessor the Virago535 as her starter bike and its excellent, to put it bluntly, its pretty weak coming off my SFV650. For learning on I think its an excellent bike for my wife, she loves it. I think the brakes could be better, esp the rear drum.
