I’m 6’4 and ended up buying the street triple R. I test rode a few naked bikes and it blew everything away for a standard riding position. Even at my height it’s reasonably comfortable. While his comment about wind protection is true, it’s not great, that’s not why you buy a naked bike. Ive had no regrets buying it. Awesome engine, great sound, the triple growls. Easy to handle. More power than I’ll ever need. It seems to keep winning the naked bike comparisons.

Pretty cool riding with David Hough. I think his books are fantastic and a must read for any new motorcyclist. I’ve Read both of his proficient motorcycling books and scan them again before every riding season.

Good points. I actually do frequent the site even though I don’t post much. When I first started it was great to see the dialog of other new riders. Also being in Canada with a longer than normal winter this year has made it tough. The itch is getting bad :(

I have the Scorpion EXO 1000 helmet and love it. The built in sun visor works well and easy to flip up and down while riding.

I bought the Street Triple R and love it. It has upright riding position fairly light weight and engine with a growl. I rode the monster, aprili shiver and the triumph one after the other. The street triple was so easy to ride and a blast! The shiver was a great ride also. Found the monster a bit tight since I’m 6’4″

if you like the Daytona, look at the Street Triple R. Same engine re-tuned for a lower end torque and more consistent power band. The riding position is more upright – which I prefer, and the insurance is less than a Daytona. It has been a blast to ride.

You wont regret the Street Triple R if you go for it. I was sold after a test ride. I chose standard based on riding position and found it easier to handle vs foot forward cruiser.

    Anybody tried something like this?

seems they would put them a bit higher and out. I have the same issue on my triumph – I see more elbow than road.

I had the same feeling when I took my class last year. Why didn’t I do this 20years ago? Better late than never. Where are you taking the class? I am in Alberta also.

    Have fun?

I just got the latest version of the Joe Rocket alter ego 10.0. The construction and fabric are a lot higher quality than the old one. The interesting thing about the design is that you can take panels off and transform it into a mostly mesh jacket. It comes with a waterproof liner also. I haven’t gotten to try the mesh out as it hasn’t been warm enough yet. When in regular mode it ends up offering 2 layers of protection. The ballistic and the mesh.

I was in the same predicament. I didn’t want a cruiser or a sportbike. I ended up looking at the Aprilia Shiver, Triumph Street Triple R, and Ducati Monster. After trying them all, ended up with the triumph. All have a more upright riding position vs a typical sport-bike. Being a taller rider, I didn’t want to be cramped and wanted that upright position. I found the Ducati still a bit cramped. All are lightweight naked street fighters and very agile.

The triumph is a blast to ride :D
