Participantdoubt many street riders here have had to go from 110+mph to 40mph in the span of 2 brake markers. But even expert racers can’t out break ABS when the wheels lock, proven in countless vids on the net.

Participantsorry… sears point is infineon. i just call it sears point because that’s how i remember it. :p
Actually that’s not true… sometimes i call it sears point, sometimes i call it infineon…

Participantthe only time the blinking bugs me is on the track… The dummy light comes on around 89-90 miles and I actually have no idea how many laps after that i can run… so on the track, if the light goes on, i go off and refuel… running out of gas on the track sucks… happened to my buddy once and we all laughed at him… :p

ParticipantYeh, i’m totally aware of how sponsership and contigency money works at the club level. My racer friends are going through that right now as well. Contigency’s only good if you place in the top 4 or 5. Sponsership, you need to float around out there, hit the track and race, and mingle. Either way, I’m not counting on sponsership so if i do race, i’ll need to start saving up moniez… this could mean doing less trackdays…
which doesn’t quite seem right to me…>.<
trackdays run through early-mid december over here. Actually, i’m scheduled to run sears in dec 4 and 5. As long as the provider doesn’t cancel, i’ll still be riding there rain or shine… usually providers do have a run rain or shine policy though.

Participantfwiw, you can go another 35-40 miles after the gas dummy light goes on. I’ve gone 185+ miles on a tank of gas before chickening out and refueling.

Participantheck, you don’t need to win to get sponsers. you just have to do well enough.

ParticipantI’m in cali brah. home of the most race tracks of any state. let me know if you’re down this way. Gotta do thill and sears point. sears point is a lot like the track you’re running at… not a whole lot of run off and kwalls everywhere. but it’s still the best track i’ve been on… been to laguna seca, thunderhill, reno fernley, and sears point.

Participanti thought i answered that and who said anything about relying on ABS? i don’t lock the brakes up at all. Just that one time on the track. coming up on a new rider in A group I’ve never seen ride before who actually shouldn’t have been in A group and took an 80 MPH turn at 40 MPH. There’s certain expectations of riders at the track and this rider didn’t meet them. Anyhoo, if you’re thinking I shouldn’t be riding the track, there’s experts out there who say differently and have cleared me to go race with the club officially. But, my guess is that you’ve never done a trackday at an advanced pace and you’re idea of fast is rolling around at 70 mph on the highway. S’all good. carry on.

ParticipantI try not to use it. it’s just a just in case thing. i have activated it once at the track when coming up to a slower rider who unexpectedly corner parked it hard on t10 which is a fast corner. But that was my mistake in first picking the lane position directly behind said rider. Don’t do that anymore…

Participanti imagine, it’d be like any other failing part. but just because the abs fails, does not mean your brakes are failing. all it means is that you’ll be running with standard braking with no lock up protection.

Participantwhat’s with this carry spare tire? I ride my sv650s abs on the track. it is my track bike. I’m already carrying this “tire” you talk about. And you forget one thing. it’s where you place the weight on the bike that matters. So please come up with valid arguments for not wanting abs, like your maintainence worries, and not some weak sauce excuse about carring some extra tire because it’s equivalent in weight but not in shape or placement on the bike. there’s pros and cons to having abs, let the questioner decide based on valid pros and cons and not some weak sauce bull crap. You WILL NOT feel this 7 lb weight difference between the svs and svs-abs.
megaspaz
Participantand you feel this difference when the bike’s moving? doubt it. I’ve ridden a non-abs svs. You in no way feel this 7 lb difference. You say, you’re worried about another maintainence point or something else to go wrong, yes, valid reason for you. but weight difference? weak sauce.
megaspaz
Participant7 lb difference between the abs svs and the non abs svs. negligible difference.

ParticipantI got me a 2007 sv650s abs model. I like it. the abs doesn’t bother me. i let other people ride the bike and some people like the abs and some people don’t. i myself, prefer to have it just in case. although, the object of the game is to not get into these pants soiling moments and/or to lock up the brakes in the first place.

Participanthaha… it wasn’t cold. There’s race power ones and power one roads. they basically look the same but there’s a difference in the carcass. I went with the race front and the road rear since for 160/60, it was recommended by the rep not to get the race power ones for the rear… issues with the track really fucking up race rear like tire chunks coming off the carcass. if you’re rear’s bigger than 160/60, then go for it, but get the race power ones. For me, i’m looking at pirelli’s dot race sc3 tires as the slick version wore great and had a lot of tread left after hard riding. Also, suspension guru dave moss, likes the bridgestone dot race tires, and i have a lot of confidence in his judgement, so i’ll be looking at bridgestones too.
