Chaps will help with road debris and such. I always find that I hit my hipbone and sometimes have slid on my bum. If you’re looking for chaps to be quintessential protection…they aren’t.
That said, I’ve taken to wearing armored shorts (661 Bomber Combos) when I’m out getting nutty.
This is a tricky area because this is where style and protection come together. If you’re looking at Chaps as the only protection then you’re coming up short. I would offer a riding jean (Draggins, Icon, Rocket) with a pair of chaps over them would be a reasonable middle ground if you’re looking for style AND protection.
Capt CrashParticipantDRZ400SM. It’s giggletastic. Just plain fun.
My real name–
if you ask my brothers it’s “Hey, Stupid”
if you ask my HS students it’s “Sir”
if you ask Mrs. Crash it’s “Sweetie”I respond to: “Crash” “Capt” “Free Pizza” and “Look out!”
Capt CrashParticipantI think we’re on the same page–DON’T GRAB! But for modulation I find 4 works better than two. One of the things I’ve noticed in training riders is that 2 fingered riders won’t progressively squeeze and bear down on the lever like they should. Switch them to 4 and they’ll progressively squeeze all the way to the stop.
But that’s with rookies! When I play with stoppies with 2 fingers I find I can’t modulate the brake as well as I can with 4…but I’m getting old too…
Bottomline for me is: do what works for you! And don’t Grab, Stab, or Mash the brakes!
