I already own and have a 00′ civic paid for, so I’m a bit lucky in that aspect.
I do however plan on purchasing a bike after my MSF course, and riding it as MUCH as possible. I would love to replace my car forever, but I do think having one is a much better backup plan, than only a bike.
I’m thinking of emergencies, incredibly bad weather ect. I live in Virginia and we have weird seasons, it could be sunny then snow the next day in winter, you never know. Also, what if you NEED to get someplace, and its just not possible due to snow/torrential downpour/wind/hurricane, whatever… And someone is hurt or its a family emergency.
Even if its a junky car, I think its better to have one than not. Also +1 for the injury thing. I shattered my wrist a few years back(right, and Im right handed) and I wouldn’t be able to ride a bike, but I could drive just fine.
