I think it’s a great choice. I recently purchased a 2008 and am very happy with it. The bike is fairly light, at about 480 pounds wet, has good power, handling and braking. I am 6′ tall, 240 lbs and was able to easily accelerate to 65-70 with more throttle on tap if needed. Also, the Vulcan seat was the most comfortable one I’ve sat on, which is important for those longer rides. Anyway, two thumbs up for the little Kawi.
