Beware those who preach equality for therein lies the seeds of revenge.
October 25, 2008 at 6:40 am #14289smokeizfireParticipantthe “beware” and “revenge” talk doesn’t mean what I think it means. If it does, this conversation may go into a whole other direction. Just remember, there is nothing to fear, but fear itself.

October 25, 2008 at 7:27 am #14290smokeizfireParticipantbeing laid off, or a senior citizen having to come out of retirement to look for a job due to inflation. Have you been watching the Dow lately? I think things are pretty scary already. If African Americans in this country had a fair shot at opportunity from the 1st day George Washington took office, then I would have to agree with you on the “racially divisive” issue. I believe tagging any race of people as just a “color” such as white, black, brown, yellow, etc, is divisive. If we were all born in America, why aren’t we all considered just simply Americans? If you were born in Mexico, you are considered a Mexican. I believe being asked to reveal your race on a job application is racially divisive.
Unfortunately, racism is what this country was built on from the beginning. Lets be realistic, slavery was a reality in this country up until I think the late 1800s. ” Jim Crow” laws in the south didn’t end until the late 1960s. That means that particular history is recent enough to still have people living today that have lived through that horrible time in America. If you consider all of this and still feel there’s a divisiveness in that scenario you mentioned, then………..I don’t know what to say. If a company wants to give a “Black Achievement Award”, why the hell not? It’s America. I thought that’s what freedom was all about. Giving out a “Vertically Challenged Naked Award” if you wanted to.

I don’t know what you *think* it means, but I would have thought that it was obvious.
Let me spell it out for you.
Those who perceive themselves to have been “oppressed” rarely want to stop at gaining equality, they want revenge…
October 27, 2008 at 2:21 pm #14326RupmiscParticipantDon’t confuse being PC, with being willing to challenge stupid ideas (even though I will defend the right of those with stupid ideas to speak them). For once, I think I agree with ‘ole Smoky, if I understand what he was saying. Anonymous (brave soul) is sounding a bit paranoid. Does Anonymous think that some people only “perceive” themselves to have been oppressed? Wow, speaking about relativism. Personally, I would say that groups that have been victims of genocide or slavery could fairly claim to have been “oppressed”. I really don’t think “perception” is a big factor.
By the way, there are plenty of people who preach equality without seeking revenge.
Saying “vertically challenged” instead of “short” is PC (yuck). Assuming all short people suffer from some sort of Napoleonic complex is stupid, and can fairly be challenged. Assuming women are bad drivers is probably stupid. It isn’t an assault on free speech to say so.
October 27, 2008 at 7:52 pm #14334AnonymousGuestIf you don’t think it’s getting very scary out there, you’re just not well enough informed yet; you’re still drinking the mainstream media kool aid. That’s not paranoia, it’s fact.
Regarding the “anonymous (brave soul)” jibe, in case you hadn’t noticed, everyone’s anonymous here, regardless of the little names some of you make up for yourselves. In fact I may be a different anonymous from anonymous, or I may even be you, or me, or someone else, or no-one you know, or not.
Pretty much every race on earth has suffered at one time or another throughout history, but we/they got over it and didn’t use it as an excuse for all their (self-inflicted) woes.
Regarding smokeizfire’s simplistic “can’t we all just get along?”, no, human nature, throughout history, has dictated that we can’t. To think otherwise is dangerously naive. Human nature doesn’t change regardless of how much much liberals would like it to.
Multi-culturalism is just the name we give to that transitory phase where one dominant race is in the process of being replaced by another.
October 28, 2008 at 4:02 pm #14351MunchParticipantSooooo in short…. we are all sheep that are mindless and veer towards whatever the boob tube tells us and might as well give up the fight to better the human race cause well…its predetermined to happen…..
Wow…. why not instead sounding like the very “drinking the mainstream media kool aid” that your post supposedly suggests you hate…. instead offer up some actual forward thinking. I don’t care if your listening to liberal, democrat, republican, short wave militia leaning channels or heck even the Disney channel…. try them all -get better informed, make better decisions.
One reason why I hate politics…. most, not all , but most listen to the same “preaching to the choir” stations over and over so they can get that “feel better about being a (enter “party” here)” mood. Then try to spew the idea that if your not listening to that very same thing that you are somehow more skewed in thoughts then them. Get more info of whats going..there’s more then one story to every story.
I bet your a grunge movement fan weren’t ya ” My life sux I am a teenager and the world doesn’t understand or notice us”…yea teen age angst was a totally new concept right? pffft..please.
The world is getting scary out there yes. Instead of cowering in fear -stand up for yourself and beliefs and maybe informing others of what you perceive as better options and not …. get over it we are doomed. Offering ideas and not criticism or blame and having a good sense of compromise and understanding is gonna go alot further.
Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h
October 28, 2008 at 5:57 pm #14359RupmiscParticipantMunch: well said.
Anonymous: “Mainstream media kool aid”? Wouldn’t say anything except to point out that the kool aid can be found just about anywhere, and a little intelligent straining is called for.
“Dominant race”. I respect Munch’s insight so maybe he has a point on the grunge thing. But I wonder if maybe you went in a different direction. Sounds more like you imagine yourself as the member of a “dominant race” that is being threatened. Classic scapegoating? Do you live in western PA? ;-P
By the way, it seems that several nations have used self inflicted woes as an excuse for the inexcusable (see Nazi Germany ).
I won’t disagree that ultimately, we all have to get over the past and take responsibility for our own future. But there is something about the way you say it that has an edge that suggests that currently, you feel yourself to be a victim.
November 2, 2008 at 7:15 am #14508smokeizfireParticipantWhoa cowboy! Are you sure you are not planning an assassination? True. History has shown us that we are always fighting with ourselves. No matter how much intelligence The Creator has gifted us with above all creations, most of us will never look at our similarities. They will only see our differences. What makes any man dominant than another? Let alone a group of men, which today we call race. “Race”? I guess so named because we rely on our differences, one group “racing” to get ahead of the other.
You are paranoid. It sounds like you believe their is a conspiracy by Blacks to take over America, because of the possibility of a Black and White mixed individual becoming president. A man who was raised by all whites; went to school with all whites, and whose mother was on welfare as well. And for the record, technically he will be the first president of mixed heritage. Not the first African American president. He worked his way to his position just as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, or any other you would like to name. Why was there no conspiracy when Jesse Jackson ran for president? He was 100% African American. Is it because he wasn’t in a position to almost win?
Which is more simplistic and ridiculous? My “ideal” of a better America for everyone, or your theory of “domination”? Yes, they are 2 extreme ideals. Only one 1 of the 2 I’d like to hope for. You have a right to your opinion, how sick it may be in my opinion. Thank God the America of today seem to have less people in it who succumb to paranoid racist ideals.such as yours. Here’s a little pun for your “Domination Theory”. It’s no fun when the rabbit gets the gun. K{= D)
