I did the same mod to my bike as well.. Definitely better than before but would still love a deeper sound to it… Only new pipes will get you that unfortunately.. Even fully gutted they still sound tinny..

As far as I know drilling the pipes doesn’t effect the catalytic converter… I believe it only effects the sound levels and not the emissions.. I’ve had them drilled out for a couple months now and no cops have bothered me yet.. Though I rarely see cops stopping cruisers anyway.. It’s always street bikes.. If I get a fine I’ll let ya know.. :)

Honestly a cop is not going to know even if you show it to him, unless he is a biker. The chances of getting a fine are very minute as most inspections will be the only times you would get “caught” and even then I am unsure it would matter unless you have a tail pipe emission test. In NC motorcycles are still a safety equipment inspection anyway.
The Motor vehicle inspectors that control the stations are the only ones that would have authority to call you out on it.
Personally….. as minute a risk that it is…. not worth the effort, but there again the 900 is “loud” enough with open throttle and tame enough to talk over at idle.
I know riders that have done this and in reality there is no real high threat of fines, just wanted to point out that there is the risk out there.
Also some do not stop at just the three hole mod… the keep going till they take the full baffle out to “straight pipe” or “shotgun” it. In which case you will be eliminating the Cat.

Man I cant bring myself to spend the $1K for new pipes and the hypercharger.

Do you guys think just getting the pipes is worth the $350 + labor = $500 to get new pipes on my bike?
I have no clue if the V&H Cruzers will add any performance or just make it louder…?

I might just save the money and increase the size of the 3-hole mod from 3/8″ to 1/2″

Personally for me… if I can’t justify it… it means theres a part of me that knows that I don’t need it or want it bad enough to try hard enough to justify it …even in the flimsiest of reasons. Granted….that was a discovery I made too late, but a result of Jeep ownership.
