Many people love full-face motorcycle helmets for the amount of safety they offer but aren’t thrilled with having their face covered all the time. Instead of going with an open-face helmet, there’s the option to choose a modular one for the best of both worlds.

With a modular helmet design, the face shield and chin bar flips up and out of the way allowing you to get an open-helmet feel. If you want the full-face effect, then you just reach up and pull the chin bar and visor back down in front of your face. It’s an excellent compromise between an open-face helmet and a full-face one, which is what makes these helmets so popular.

While there are hundreds of helmet models out there to choose from, to help you narrow your search, we thought it best to put together a list of the top five modular helmets. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look.

1. Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon

Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon

Schuberth’s C4 Pro Carbon is the company’s latest version of its modular helmet design. The C4 Pro is the quietest modular on the market, with less than 85 decibels making it to the rider. It’s also lightweight, coming in at 4.11 pounds in a medium helmet size and it has an intermediate oval head shape.

Features for the Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon include a drop-down sun visor, large Pinlock anti-fog face shield, multi-channel ventilation system, removable Coolmax antibacterial interior liner,  pre-installed speaker and microphone, prepped for SC1 and SC2 communication system, and an integrated antenna.

The EPS uses a multipart design to make it absorb force better, and the shell of the helmet is made 100 percent carbon fiber and shaped to be aerodynamic and comfortable to wear at high speeds. The only downside is it can get quite expensive.
