Personally, I love modular helmets because they allow me to open the lid and see what I’m doing if I stop for gas. The outer shell is a Direct Fiber Processing fiberglass affair that’s designed to be stable at basically any speed and there’s an integrated spoiler. One downside with this helmet is that the shell only comes in two sizes, so you can get a bit of a bobblehead look depending on your head size.
The EPS foam in this helmet is a sectional design, meaning it’s made up of multiple parts. The EPS is also multi-density, which helps provide more protection. Last but not least, the vents on this helmet work well and cut down on fogging inside the lid.

Shoei Neotec 2 Helmet
The Shoei Neotec 2 helmet is another helmet that’s a cut above 99 percent of what’s out there on the market. This helmet is the Cadillac of the modular designs. There’s simply a lot to it. The helmet features an integrated sun visor, superior chin-bar latching mechanism, extremely comfortable removable interior liner, Pinlock visor, great ventilation, noise isolator cheek pads, chin curtain, breath guard, and a ratcheting chin strap.
The helmet’s shell offers a five-ply matrix construction and comes in four different sizes. This helps keep the helmet smaller on your head and eliminates the bobblehead look common on some modular helmets. The shell is aerodynamic and won’t catch the wind unexpectedly.
As for the EPS, the inner liner is a dual-layer design and is designed in multiple pieces to absorb impacts better than many other EPS liners on the market. The main downside to this helmet is the fact that the paint finish could be a little bit better and the fact that it’s quite expensive.

AGV Sportmodular Carbon Solid Helmet
AGV makes some high-quality lids, and the Sportmodular is no exception. This helmet is a pricey one, but it is pretty great. It’s one of the lightest-weight helmets on the market. The carbon fiber shell is what makes it such a special item. The shell is available in three sizes, which is good.
The helmet lacks some of the high-quality communications systems and features found on other lids, but it does have an inner sun visor and good ventilation. The helmet comes with a top-notch EPS liner, too. The liner features a five-density construction and is available in four sizes.
The helmet also features a carbon fiber chin bar, an integrated ventilation system that really moves some air, an adjustable integrated spoiler, Shalimar and Nabuk neck roll, Ritmo fabric cheek pads, a Pinlock visor, and a metal latching system for the flip-up chin bar.

The NEXX X.Vilitur Helmet is NEXX’s first foray into the modular helmet space. It is a good one, too. The helmet features some really great features, including a drop-down sun visor, removable chin curtain, and an adjustable breath guard.
