ParticipantHaha of course…I think the only person I might not wave at would be someone on a 50cc scooter…I’m not exactly sure if they count or not lol
But seriously, I wave at everybody, because thats what its all about… I remember the first time I was waved at, it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling in my belly! lol Its just a way of acknowledging that youre in the fraternity of those on 2 wheels.

ParticipantHaha I’m a sportbiker with a matching factory logo jacket

ParticipantI LOVE that episode! So funny, yet true…
The majority of harley riders here arent bad. The worst thats happened to me is like what jeff said, they just won’t acknowledge me, and that was once or twice when I went to wave at them riding by (so now I let them make the first move lol ) Of course I’m on a sportbike so that does make a slight difference I suppose. Either way, 99% of riders will respect you for being a rider and making that initial first step to put yourself on 2 wheels (or 3 in eon’s case
), if the other 1% wants to be a douchebag, then so be it! I dont think the main reason why you decided to ride was to give all of the harley rider chubby’s when they see you was it?
And as for shifting, before the class I had never driven a manual car or ridden a motorcycle, but once I was actually on the bike, it came fairly easily. Like you, I was worried about not being able to do it, but I promise you, its really not a big deal. The main thing is clutch control, once you get that, shifting will become second nature. and eon was right the usual pattern is 1-N-2-3-4-5-6.

ParticipantPlus if you see a plain clothes guy agressively pull his car in front of you and then hop out and charge you with a gun in his hand, the last thing anyone is going to say is “Wait, wait, before you potentially shoot me, rob me, or arrest me, I’m filming you right now.” And he even owned up to his speeding ticket and what not, so the only person acting irrationally imho was the officer. My grandfather, father, and uncle are cops and I have all the respect in the world for them, but in this case, he was in the wrong.
Just my opinion.

ParticipantThats freaking ridonkulous!!
Yet so badass…

ParticipantMost of these are tought in the MSF class…
and they all come down to creating a riding stategy and SEEing (Search, Evaluate, Execute)
As far as number 9, I guess it’s because you should always be extra wary of a slower car (they could be turning without signaling, distracted, drunk, etc…) plus there are showoffs who like to weave their way in and out of traffic while barely having the real estate to do so.

ParticipantHe almost needs an elbow puck lol

ParticipantI guess its the same effect as saying “youre not going to eat in your new car” when you first get it, but after like 2 weeks, youre devouring a hardees biscuit on the way to work lol
At least you got it out of the way early

ParticipantJust google the year, make, and model of the bike your looking for. Most sites will have specs that will include the msrp for that particular bike.

ParticipantHey man thanks! That does sound easy enough. This is the main issue I have with ordering one, but after reading that, I think I’m going to get one the next time I get paid. Can you get those winged wire nuts at your average hardware store?
ShamRock229
ParticipantSo word on the forums is that if I go with the Targa kit, the biggest thing I would have to do is cut and splice the tag light wire. Has anyone ever cut and spliced a wire before? Obviously I would need a pair of wire cutters, but is there anything else I would need? Thanks guys!

ParticipantAt the end of the day, youre the one who is going to be riding your motorcycle, not him or anyone else. That being said, you need to get one that is within your own personal limits, no matter the type.
ShamRock229
ParticipantThanks! If you’re going to do it, do it right! Haha it’s a pain finding good green gear though…you would think there would be a better selection, but everything is dominated by black, white, red and blue…oh well.
ShamRock229
ParticipantWell I actually have a 650..but I suppose they have sites for just those too. Time to hit up google…
ShamRock229
ParticipantIt takes some people longer to find the right gear than the right bike… just remember that you’re protecting your brain( and ultimately your life) here, so you want to make sure it’s properly and comfortably protected.
I know motorcycle superstore will let you return a helmet if it’s the wrong size, no questions ask. Of course, I’m not sure what site you will be buying from, but eon is right, definitely read up on the return/exchange policy (especially in your case since you are getting it on sale and they may not have a return policy for items on sale).
