If they make a drivers backrest for a Sportster, get one. It will no longer feel like the wind is going to push you off the back of the bike while your riding, if that is your main fear about going faster. Otherwise I would ride early on weekend mornings on a nice straight section of interstate highway and try to ride as fast as you could go. Don’t look at the speedo and let a friend tell you how fast your going.

For your height and weight a Rebel would do. I’m a few inches taller and 100 pounds heavier. A Honda VLX or a 250 ninja would be better. My Rebel would get me up to 70 fast but each mile an hour after that it took forever. Here is a video of a guy on a Rebel maxing out the speedo riding to work.

I regularly ride around 80 on a VLX in NJ just keeping pace with traffic. i’ve been over 90 a few times.

Passed my written test this morning and got my permit. Before driving out to take a look, I went to the dealer that the seller serviced the bike at to check out their service rates and to look at the new ones. Found out then that they went out of business this winter. The next “local” dealer is over fifty miles away. That is a little to far away without a pickup to transport. I then went to the Honda/BMW/Ducati/Hyosung/Piaggio dealer. They only had an orange Aquila GV 250 and blue rebel. If they had a black Aquila in stock, they would have made a sale. Hyosungs are new to the area because there wasn’t a dealer. They are nonexistent on craigslist along with the 500 Vulcan that I originally wanted. I’m going to look around for two more weeks before I consider buying new.

I’m sorry if I offended you or anyone else on this forum, but I am a large man and that is a small bike. There are two 2007 Spyders in my area on sale for $2500 with less than 1500 miles on them. I don’t intend to do much highway riding mainly because It would be suicidal during morning rush with the amount of dump trucks dropping stones on the weekdays. Replaced the windshield on my car twice last year giving a friend a ride to work.
