NoobacycleParticipant
13 years ago I used to have a 78′ Honda Hawk 400cc and too bad I had to part with it when I went into the service. I had nowhere to keep it. I’d love to have it back now.
September 9, 2008 at 5:55 am in reply to: Well, I finally took the first day of the MSF course! #11870NoobacycleParticipantI took the MSF course on a GZ 250. I was the last person to arrive at the track so all that was left was a GZ 250 that had busted instrumentation and a huge dent in the gas tank. I didn’t mind it since the clutch worked well for me and I did rather well with that bike. I just wouldn’t want to ride something like that on a major highway.
NoobacycleParticipantI never took the mva before but from what I hear, they make you perform the same things you practice and perform during the MSF test.
I took and passed the MSF course two weeks ago. I enjoyed the course immensely. They don’t B.S. you and teach you real world riding skills that you’ll use day in and day out. Being that you’ve had some dirt riding experience, you are well ahead of most students and should breeze by.
NoobacycleParticipant^^^ He’s right about the Advil. It was my best friend for “both” of my days there. The day ended with a throbbing headache each time. Bring your own mini cooler like I did. Cold gatorade is good to have for those mini breaks too.
NoobacycleParticipantSounds very cool. This reminds me how my motorcycle waiver can’t arrive in the mail soon enough. Too bad I’m also like 3000 miles away.
NoobacycleParticipantI’ve also asked and mentioned the Ninja 250r and I’ve talked to multiple people about it. Being that I’m 6’0 and 185lbs, I was always told to start with at least 600cc.
People have told me this about the Ninja 250r.
– I’m too big for it and it is meant for a 100 lb girl.
– You’ll get bored with it within a week.
– Start with a cruiser first. The ninja 250 looks good, but the suzuki sv650 looks better and seems like a bike that will last me a while.
August 26, 2008 at 10:40 am in reply to: Best looking 250cc motorcycle in my opinion. The guy in the video isn’t me by the way. #11189NoobacycleParticipantYes, those are leaps and bounds over what we normally see in the 250 cc class like the GZ250, Eliminator 250, and Honda Rebel. These Hyosungs had tachometers which not many cruisers ( even upscale ones ) have anymore.
NoobacycleParticipant^^^ Yes, I would bring boots and gloves on the first day. My first day was 4 hours of classroom literature and then five hours of range time. I did take the two day course that went from 8am until 6pm, and you were tired after each day.
NoobacycleParticipantThat must have been a heck of a class Anonymous. In our class of twelve there hasn’t been one crash, drop, or injury over the two long days of riding. Maybe an engine stall here and there, but most of our class already had some riding experience. Although in another class they mentioned dismissing people for being an hour late but I’m sure all classes are like that wherever you go due to the amount of material they need to cover.
NoobacycleParticipantToday was my second and final day as well for that course. Everyone in my class of twelve students passed. Nobody scored perfectly though. I know where I screwed up and it was when I was making figure eights and tight, slow speed turns. Those I’d like to practice more on. Other than that, I was good in everywhere else. The whole class had fun and enjoyed it. Our instructors were patient and had a sense of humor.
I’d recommend this course to anyone who had the desire to ride a motorcycle. But before signing up for this course, they should at least be familiar with standard shift.
NoobacycleParticipantAt another dealer I saw the V-max there. It was an older model though but still looks like a nice bike. V-max is a hell of a lot of power to have between your legs. 13 years ago I fooled around a purchased a 1984 Honda V65 sabre for $500. Too much bike for a beginner and thats the kind of bike the sabre/magna is modeled after.
NoobacycleParticipantI get the impression that the rider is fairly new to riding motorcycles as well as new to the area. He’s also lucky he just ran into a few bushes instead of a parked car or house.
NoobacycleParticipantI’ve got my MSF rider course coming this Saturday and I’m excited and looking forward to it. In the meantime I’ve been reading lots of motorcycle literature about riding and I’ve heard about the brand loyalty bit. Some people go to extremes when it comes to Harleys. I was just curous as if anyone has observed any problems with owning Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha bikes amongst a Harley crowd.
People giving me advice to stay away from Harleys either have Harleys or have previously owned them.
Anyways, thanks for answering my questions before.
August 17, 2008 at 10:41 am in reply to: Good first bike for a ridiculously tall/big guy? 6’11” almost 400 lbs #10686NoobacycleParticipantIf you have the money, maybe you should check out a Honda Rune? Probably not the best beginner bike out there, but when I saw 6’11 and 400lbs, this was the bike that came to mind.
