Participantim tempted to go to the riders edge course instead of the MSF one, it costs a hundred bucks more, but i get to ride a blast so it would help in that area. I’d looovee an 883, one of my favortie bikes, however like you said, cheap it aint. lol. But like you said, im going to butt test in a few months and see where that leads me, so for the next 4 months or so i’ll be reasearching every aspect possible.

Participantwow, this is a great read because this is exactly the things that have been going through my head for the last month or so. I’m stuck between sport bike/standard or cruiser, namley the ninja 500 and a vstar 650 , more or less because i’m a bigger guy. (6’2″ 250lbs) and for some reason its making me like the buell blast more and more, its sort of an in between….what is your guys opinion on that?

Participantsounds great! i cant wait to do it in april!!! lol this ought be fun though, im 6-2-6-3″ and 250lbs, sounds like i’ll be in the same boat. lol. im trying to decide between either a buell blast or a Vstar 650.

Participant85mph your going 124 feet per second, just a visualation for ya. Although, thats about normal cruising speed out here on the jersey highways and biways.

Participantlooks amazing!!! im still considering this as a first bike, simply because of my size. and its an amazing looking bike! Congrats with your purchase!!!

Participantthe styling isn’t bad i just like that its a more upright sporty little thing, it still has a little to much lean, but again, all this could go out the window when i go to sit on them and see what i like. im going to try and stop by a yamaha dealer and sit on the vstar this weekend so i might just go cruise around and check out some other machines.

ParticipantWell some good news. i found out that i wont have to make the two hour commute one way to work. I’ll be getting a company vehicle. So the most i’d have to commute to work is 27 miles one way (which is nothing) and only about 6 miles is highway and its all traffic i have to deal with, the rest are country back roads. so something a little sporty isnt as much out of the question as i orgininally thought. I’m starting to like the ninja 500 more and more. As far as the versys being pricey, i meant more of a cost thing not value. As it seems like a great little bike. I just didnt want to go crazy on the price of my first bike.

Participanti like the versys and the gladius to, but a little pricey. I’d imagine anything with a Vtwin will get tiring after long rides just from the vibrations though. The GV250 is definitley a nicely styled bike, but i think it would put out on the highway, espescially with me on it. lol. Also the closest hyosung dealer is about 2 hours away from here, so parts and maint. would be a bear at best i think. Unfortunatley there really arent any used versys around.

Participanti freaking looove the styling of the GV650. but isn’t it a little to powerful for a beginner bike at 650 and the weight being low? also, hows the reliablity on it?

Participanthow do you like having just the footpegs? ive heard having the floorboards on the classic come in handy?

Participantdo you have a custom or a classic?

ParticipantGreat!! thanks for the suggestion. That’s pretty much where my train of thought was, just wanted to sort of confirm it. I mean, i don’t see how having a lighter easier bike to ride would be a bad thing, lol. plus MPG and cost is a big factor for me for this bike. Thanks for everyone’s help. you guys are great!
and as for the VROD thing, i totally didn’t mean buying it as a first bike, lol. Maybe one day down the road, but definitley not anywhere near great for a first bike. i just love the styling of it, and the VMAX from yamaha, its like that sporty, muscle, cruiser look. i love it. i wish they made a less CC version of one.

ParticipantOk so i’m really liking the Vstar lineup, from what i’ve reaserached and asked around about. However everyone i talk to thinks im crazy when i talk about a 650. They say im way to big for it? 6’2-3″ and 250-260lbs. average build. however i really like the looks of the 950. but i’m worried it might be to much power for a new rider who’s never ridden before? Am i thinking correctley? I don’t really intended to goes balls to the wall with the bike. just back and forth to work, and some cruises on the weekend through the backroads. Granted i totally see myself getting hooked on motorcycles and doing it for a long time.
So is everyone else right about needing a bigger bike, or should i stick with a smaller 650? I really value your guys opinion over everyone else’s.
