I have found the DL-650 V-Strom to be a great bike for me. It is heavy, and you’re right, it’s mostly a street bike, but I have found it to be really comfortable and versatile. So far, the only accessories I’ve added are hand guards to lessen the frozen-hand syndrome, and the stock seat has been fine. (the longest ride I’ve taken so far has been 1.5 hours, so on a really long ride, I might feel differently about the stock seat)
I thoroughly considered the KLR-650, but ended up taking the DL over it for a few reasons. Power is one, and the comfort is another. Whatever you choose, be safe and have a great time!
