ParticipantI would also spend the time to read the “Recommended Reading” articles from the side panel…just so you know the type of advice you will get from here…
I think I will leave it at that for now…

ParticipantBurn out in a water box at the drag strip…I understand that…
Burn out during a drift race…I understand that…
Burn out while trying to make a hasty get away…I can understand that (done that one myself in my cars and trucks)
Burn out to waste rubber and abuse an engine…ummm…nope, don’t get it…never did…Those are some awesome video links…I enjoyed the laugh for New Years…
Happy New Year!! I hope everyone enjoyed the evening as much as I did!!

ParticipantBut he may have told a white lie on this one…I have asked him “if it is your money to plunk down…what would you pick?”…without hesitation his answer “Bandit 1250S, no doubt about it…best bang for your buck and it simply does it all…”…well I may be paraphrasing a little, but that was basically his response…then he added that the V-Strom DL650 was the second choice…I’m really surprised that he didn’t say the 2010 Suzuki GSX1250FA, being the updated “Bandit”…maybe he has changed his mind??
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t know him personally…I was chatting with him in a forum a while ago…just so no-one thinks he is my buddie or something…

ParticipantYou guys aren’t metric yet…so…nope that’s not a good excuse either…
I think we are all effed in the next 20-30 yrs when your generation takes over from mine…maybe I’ll die in a spectacular motorcycle accident and won’t have to see it…nice, eh?

ParticipantI also started riding at 39 (just last May)…I had ridden dirt bikes when I was a kid, but nothing since…even after 25yrs away, I picked up the clutch work right where I left off…I had a blast this past summer riding all over the place, driving my wife nuts talking about bikes…
The SuperMoto is an excellent choice for a first bike…light and easy to manouvre, durable for the inevitable “oops”…as for the Chinese bike thing…they have come a long way in quality in the last couple of years, so I don’t think it is a huge risk…I know the training school that I went to has a Konker that they are totally amazed at is reliability and durability…that reminds me, take an MSF course or some type of basic rider course…it will definately help avoid bad habbits and probably point out some tips on getting your license…
Anyway, have fun and enjoy the riding…

ParticipantI was expecting worse than that…maybe body paint…yikes…
But in reality that’s Aussie imitating Canadian Ass…lol

ParticipantI didn’t know you were originally from Calgary… ;-p
There’s cowboys in Ontario? I though they were all from Calgary…
Hehehe
The Bike show circuit doesn’t hit Alberta until the January…I think I’ll make the trip north to catch the Edmonton show…the one in Red Deer sucked last year…not enough room for each dealer to bring all the bikes they wanted…so I didn’t get to sample the bikes I liked (as I seem to prefer the less popular bikes…non sport or cruiser…)

ParticipantExcellent example of why you should start out with a lower powered bike, the more power there is, the quicker things can go sideways on you…(pun intended…)…the other thing that I would suggest, make sure it is comfortable for you…I bought my bike because I liked the looks of it (and it was highly recommended as a beginner bike…GS500) and found that the leg room is a little tight for me…now I am wanting to upgrade this year to a bike with more leg room(I’m going to a more powerful bike at the same time)…I really don’t need the extra power, as the GS500 has enough to get me into trouble, but if I am going to buy a new bike I am going to get one with a little more powa…although I still like my GS, so I am really looking at a naked Bandit…similar looks and lots more room and power…or maybe a Honda 919…

ParticipantI have thought about painting my bike in a patriotic theme…red wheels & frame with white body work (I still might, if I don’t change bikes)…then I thought about the season, and wondered where your sense of humour was taking you…
Hope you guys like the videos…the “i am CANADIAN” rant was a beer commercial from a few years ago, and I just stumbled across the dancing Santa and thought it was pretty funny..

ParticipantThe Ninja 250R is more of a standard bike with a faring…the 600cc is a race bike that is set up for racing…tight and cramped is part of that package…the 250 most likely has more leg room, but I would follow the other suggestions and go sit on the bikes that you are thinking about…you don’t know until you sit on them…
Although it sounds like you are set on the 600, so it will probably “feel” most comfortable reguardless of the actual results. If you really need a 600, check out the Ninja 650R…
Have fun sitting on the bikes anyway, and try to keep an open mind…you never know what will be a good fit…

ParticipantIn the 250cc class…Yamaha WR250X, Honda CRF230M…Suzuki makes a 400cc DRZ-400SM…
It just depends on what type of riding you want to do…

ParticipantRemember it isn’t the one that is barking that you need to watch out for…
It’s the one that just lies there waiting for the “snacks” to come to him…
Of course neither of these two need to be worried about…the little one barks at you as he runs away…usually down the stairs…
And the big one would just bring you his bone for you to throw…

ParticipantI just checked the odometer on my bike…9100kms (5685 miles)…and that was with a very rainy summer, so if it is nice next year…look out…I’m already planning on taking an extra week of holidays (I have the option to buy time off at work) so that I can do a few long weekend trips that aren’t really long weekends for everyone…next year is gonna be a great one…provided the weather plays along…

ParticipantWhere have you been? You and Weapon dissapeared around the same time…still haven’t heard from Weapon in quite a while…
Yeah, the new wheels kinda depend on me getting a bonus…not to pay for the whole thing, but to make quite a dent in the payments…but if I don’t get the bonus I am thinking of an older Bandit…1996-1999…I found a great deal on one not too far from me…only a couple hundred over what I would expect to get for my GS500…
We’ll see…I have to wait until Feb before I know about the bonus…hopefully I can wait…but I’m not very good at that…
