LuxMundiParticipant
… has been an interesting read. I now have about 1200miles experience since Oct, and it has been fun, humbling, exciting, frustrating….
My biggest challenge has been trusting the bike to take me through the corners. Initially, every time out, I would have 1 or 2 turns where I would panic, and almost not make the turn. Honestly, I nearly quit riding, but by using countersteering properly, and envisioning a successful turn, I have gotten much better, to the point where I actually enjoy the sweepers.
One thing that helped me was going on a couple of charity rides where I knew that mine and other’s lives were on the line if I didn’t execute in the turn. I imagine that if other riders around me could have read my mind, they would have given me LOTS of room!!!!
My “resolutions” for this year:
1) find someone of similar interest & skill level to ride with
2) wear out the sides of the tires a little
3) luggage solution to my little ninja, so I can do some short tripsLuxMundiParticipantSaturday morning, I did a little charity ride for a young cancer patient. About 60 bikes, I looked a little out of place on the Ninja 250, but kept up just fine w/ the big V-twins!
The good: perfect, amazing weather; beautiful foliage; we had police escorts almost the whole ride, which was cool. Was a great cause, the little girl was a sweet heart.
The bad: the way we pulled out, there was no opportunity to introduce myself to my riding mates, and this one guy kept riding right beside me. I’m sure if he knew how fresh the ink was on my M license, he would have given me some space. Due to our “accordian style” pace, I was constantly having to shift 6-5-6-5-6-5.
The ugly: took the family down to Pine Mtn on Sunday — it looked like a bike festival down there. I cried a little inside as I told my wife how happy I was that we had all driven down together
LuxMundiParticipantHey, I picked up a black ’09 last month and just hit 1,000 miles.
I got the Joe Rocket Phoenix 2.0 pants. I wish I had bought online, because I really need the “short” but the dealers here all had weak selections, so I basically took the best fit available. I love the pants, but they offer basically zero warmth/ rain protection. I wish I had bought some with a zip-in liner.
Good luck with it! JM
LuxMundiParticipantDo this, and send me a picture of you on your Ninja:
Write out your goal in the present tense: i.e. I ride a plasma blue 2nd-gen Ninja.
Post this where you will see it: on your bathroom mirror, on a 3×5 card you carry around, on your laptop screen-saver. Ignore anyone who thinks this is dumb. This is your Ninja we’re talking about; it has nothing to do with them. Now you are reading this multiple times a day, and your lifestyle will come into line with your vision. I.e. when everyone else is ordering a $4 latte, you will skip it; carry your own water instead of buy bottled; pick up an extra shift at work; babysit kids; sell old books and electronics you have at home, etc etc etc.
Now turn off the internet, and get busy! Why are you still reading this???? GO!!!! LM
LuxMundiParticipantI love my 09 250r. I was about to buy a Kawk Elim 125, but it seemed like it lacked the power to move in traffic. I paid $2,500 more for the Ninja, but haven’t regretted it a minute. I was able to go on a poker run and didn’t feel out of place at all alongside the bigger bikes.
I’ve made so many dumb little mistakes that would have cost me on a larger bike; the 250r is very forgiving of a learner.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
LuxMundiParticipantDont I live in Houston? You have Hooters girls and Bud girls? Why are some people blessed with so much, while the rest of us are stuck at home browsing the underwear section of the Sears catalog!!!
