Riding a Vespa LX150 in Beaverton/Hillsboro area of metropolitan Portland.
    Pro:
    – great riding weather whenever it is not raining
    – relatively mild winter
    – lots of areas with twisties
    – delicious spring fresh air
    – great views in the rural areas just outside of town
    – courteous drivers, the occasional jerk of course, but as two-wheel aware and friendly as you can hope for in the USA
    – roads in excellent condition

    Con:
    – lots of rainy days

    Curb/wet weights:

    VStar 250 324 lbs
    Suzuki S40 381 lbs
    Vulcan 500 472 lbs
    VStar 650 540 lbs

The S40 does not weigh much more than a VStar 250, and is almost 100 lbs less than the Vulcan 500.

    Best wishes,

    David

Although I did not respond to the original post, I would have to stand with the ‘safety freaks’. My wife and daughter are counting on me to take care of myself and not do anything stupid on my ride. Now that the weather is good, I read about motorcycle fatalities nearly every week, and I am tired of it. Not only do I hate to hear of someone’s misfortune, but it reminds me of my own exposure to disaster. My wife does not follow the news as closely, fortunately.

You, ryan207, are in a position to make your own decisions. If the virtual head-slaps on this thread did not get your attention, then I do not know what more can be done. There are lots of ways to live well, and lots of ways to die. I hope that you survive long enough to become one of us old fuddy-duddy safety freaks.

    Best wishes,

    David
