I know it is very cheap model
But I ask people to help me make it clear: what this ‘beast’ can do and what can not.
Researching first hand market of MC’s (new, from official dealers, w/warranty) I found there is (in Ukraine from where I am) nothing to choose from 250-500cc class. Only very pricey ‘monsters’ and high engine displacement that I can not afford with my budget and with my experience as rider (it was looong time ago, maybe 15 years, when I used to ride on two wheels, except bicycles).
Thanks to your forum, Ben, I found what will be good for me, but market of new MC’s in UA have its own reality, which completely disappoint me
Here we have some ‘devices’ from China and Korea but I can not believe they worth their price.
So, the only cheap MC from Japan brand (but surely made in China) is Yamaha YBR125 which cost about $2000 new.
I have no experience to buy second hand MC and afraid it may be bad deal for me.
Sorry for so many words, but I just wants to explain why YBR125.
Actually, I like more classic-view style, Rebel, Vulcan – they are beautiful for me. Sure, YBR looks less ‘sophisticated’ and more teenager style… But as said one of our ex. president “we have what we have” and there is no Rebel, no Vulcan 500 (only bigger ones). I hardly imagine myself on sport style like Ninja, maybe it worth to try one or few times ride on sport MC, I don’t know…
I read on local forum some people made long trips on YBR125, about 2000 miles for few days. It seems a little unbelievable for me that moped like MC can do such trip! After this reading I change my mind and now thinking about this model… I want know how long (in term of odometer) can last such engine if I would use right gas, right oil and right revs? Or maybe long trips for this ‘125 kid’ is just destroying him?
It would be good for me any way, if you say clear for example “it is city range commuter and don’t ask much from it” or “yes, it not the best choice for tripping but it can handle with such task”.
FYI: after YBR125 there (in UA) is a big gap in price and next acceptable for me model have three times higher price.
It is YBR250 and Honda CBF250. They looks like brothers and their specs is almost 100% equal. Local price is about $6000. For such price I would be happy receive classic style but there is no choice unfortunately…
Now one more time I apologize for such long writing.
What I want to hear is some info about YBR125, YBR250, CBF250.
Especially such things as reliability, long lasting compared f.e. to Rebel, power, MPG and any what you can say.
P.S. Short info about me: 30+ y.o., 5’9″, 150 lbs. I prefer classic over sporty style, dreaming about long trips on MC with moderate speeds. Also want to have MC for home-work-home commute.October 8, 2008 at 12:22 am #13494WeaponZeroParticipanti think that if you got the ybr250 or cbf250 you would be perfectly happy, they both seem like great bikes.

On my first look I see no dramatic differences in specs, so maybe it beyond specs except engine displacement…
But it hard to understand what else I will receive with 250 models. Only power or something more?
If formula looks like 2*power=3*price then I will spend less money and will continue dreaming about real MC…
But if I receive not only more ‘horses’, I will be happy, as you said, with one of 250’s -
