Hey there guys. I’m out looking for a motorcycle to buy..used or new. Thing is, I have never ridden a bike in the US, though I have owned and ridden bikes in my home country, upto 400 ccs. Also I haven’t been on one since 5 years. So considering all these factors, which would be the bet for someone like me? I’m inclined toward the cruiser/standard bikes rather than the sports. Thanks….

July 30, 2008 at 4:14 pm #9607AnonymousGuestI’m open to all brands….except the Italian and British ones, coz they might be a little too expensive and harder to maintain.
July 30, 2008 at 4:28 pm #9609AnonymousGuestConsidered the Honda Shadow Spirit 750, Harley Sportster 883 or 1200 (can’t decide between the two), Suzuki S50, Kawa Vulcan 500, Yamaha Star 650, the SV650, and similar….

The 1200 is going to be a lot more of a handful when things get dicey than the 883. Spare yourself the initial trouble.
The nice thing about the Sportster is that an upgrade doesn’t mean changing bikes. There are kits (I think even a dealer installed kit) that changes the 883 into a 1200 (different heads, slight boring out of cylinders, 98% of the bike is identical between the two versions). Also consider the Shadow VLX 600 – it si a very decent bike, nice manners. Suzuki S40, it feels kinda small (good if you are small, not so hot if you are bigger, but certainly larger guys have owned and loved S40s).
