This may vary from state-to-state, but do motorcyclists need to be able to produce their proof of registration if pulled over? If so, where do you keep it?
June 18, 2009 at 7:12 pm #19908eonParticipantI’ve been keeping mine in my jacket pocket. Since I only have the one bike jacket and will not ride without it it has not been a problem. However I have just ordered a summer jacket so now I’ll have to stow it on the bike somewhere so I don’t forget it.
June 18, 2009 at 7:13 pm #19910CandiceParticipantI keep mine in my wallet with my debit card, ins card, and driver’s license. I think you have to have it – Driver’s license and registration, please. Right?
June 18, 2009 at 7:19 pm #19911bigguybbrParticipantI keep mine under the passenger seat in a zip top bag to keep it dry. I keep my proof of insurance in there with it. That way there is no way of leaving home without it.
But that is since I have a sport bike that has a compartment under the seat which it doesn’t look like you have. The boss keeps hers in the small compartment that houses her tool kit on the S40.
June 18, 2009 at 7:30 pm #19913AParticipantI have the original registration at home and a copy on the bike under the seat.
Whether or not your bike has current registration the LEO could pull up on their computer pretty easily, or radio in for that information… that long with your driver’s license status.
June 18, 2009 at 7:57 pm #19917briderdtParticipantI have the rear cowl where the passenger seat was originally. I keep the registration and proof of insurance in a zip-lock bag under that cowl. It’s key-locked, so no one’s going to take off with it unless they take the whole bike, in which case my insurance policy kicks in…
June 18, 2009 at 8:10 pm #19920zeppelinfromledParticipantI keep it under the seat in a ziplock bag. In Massachusetts, the registration is your proof of insurance, but I carry a card with my insurance information with it anyway. I also keep a copy of the insurance info in my wallet.
Keeping it in the jacket makes sense though, considering that I only have one jacket. For some reason, I just like keeping it on the bike – kind of like keeping it in the glove box (except I don’t always wear the same clothes while driving my car).
June 18, 2009 at 8:48 pm #19923SantaCruzRiderParticipantI keep it in a ziplock bag with insurance card, all tucked into a locked glove box in the fairing.
