ParticipantThis is a simple story of myself, long before I had interest on motorcycles and lived in Orlando, Florida. And now, thinking about it, now I know why I fell.
I didn’t know jack about counter-steering or anything back then. I was riding my bicycle on the street in front of my house and I was going fairly fast. Thanks to the small incline and my pedaling, about 15 to 18 mph. When I was near one of my friend’s house, I saw him and his sister sitting out front. I raised my right hand to wave, and pushed the handle bar with my left so I could “turn” right and get near them. When I pushed, the bike turned slightly to the left, but since I didn’t expect that, I kind of freaked. I started to turn the handle bar to the right, but I was still going pretty fast and the thing would counter-steer. After a series of crazy zig-zaging on my own lane, I don’t know how the bike stopped and made me do a small high-side.
I didn’t brake anything or have serious injuries, but I was hurting on the ground. I raised my head and looked toward my friends for assistance………. They pointed at me, laughed, and walked inside their house.
Yep, happy memories.

ParticipantWhat no Pee-wee’s “I meant to do that”?
Did everyones MSF or BRC or rider’s Edge cover counter steering? I took the riders edge and maybe I slept through it, but I don’t remember the idea behind it being covered. All we got was “now when you enter a turn push on the grip in the direction you want to go”…ok now I am not a stupid person and maybe to analytical for my own good, but in the class (feels like forever ago) I kept thinking “push down? push forward how?” Fortunately it’s kinda built in if you ever ridden a bicycle at decent speeds so I never really had to worry about it on the range. However it really clicked with me when I got bored and decided to play with it a bit.
Now I pull the opposite side like driving a skid steer bulldozer or such. Feels a bit more secure to me. I will “push” if I have a hard..and I mean hard ( I missing a bit of my floor board because I aint scared to turn ) turn and i need to dive with the bike……anywho….
my question is …. did they cover this with y’all in detail?BTW glad nothing got hurt but your pride.

ParticipantNext time, fall on the ground and start screaming as loud as you can with fake tears, so when they think you’re in pain and come running over, you can be the one that laughs this time

ParticipantThis happened to me about 12 years ago and I’ve been fixing my pride since then. When I took my biker class, the instructor showed us how to counter-steer. He got on the bike, did a few laps pushing the handle bars to convince us. After seeing him do it, I got convinced, tried it and worked.
I’m just waiting to save enough money to buy my own bike and practice it from dawn to dusk.
