Ive been thinking about my next bike which im sure all of yall do all the time. Im thinking of getting a sport bike but i dont want the hunched over sport style bc i want to be able to take long trips. Whats the best faired sport bike with a standard or at most semi aggressive riding position? I was thinking about a ninja 650 or sv650 but i dont know of any others out there. Thanks

And it does have an almost-racing-sport position, though it can fairly easily be modified for a more upright position (raised clip-ons and longer throttle cables and brake lines). The SV650 uses risers and bars, but is not faired. The Ninja 650 seems to be more what you’re looking for — the fairing plus the more upright position. Also the GS500f, though it seems you may be looking for something with a little more oomph. You might also look at some of the sport-touring bikes out there, though they tend toward the 1200cc+ category.

September 24, 2010 at 4:56 pm #28560EddiepowerfmParticipantwhat are you currently riding?
I started on a Vulcan 500 in July of 2008 and last month added a Ninja 65R to my garage.

It has fairing, upright riding position, and a large enough tank to get at least 200 miles between fill-ups. I have put nearly 7,000 miles on her this season. She is fun on the twisty’s and I am just learning to appreciate her on longer trips. I took her on a 500 mile trip over Labor Day. Mine is a 2000. Today’s version is the GSX650F. That may be my next bike–I may need the fuel injection for cold starts in Indy this winter.
Always fun to dream of future rides!

the SV650S is more toward the sporty…
Suzuki GSX650F…
Suzuki Bandit 650S…(a little older)
Honda CBF600…(this one may be Canada only…)
Yamaha FZ6R, or FZ6 (FZ6R is more of a standard with a full faring, but the FZ6 has more performance and a half faring…both are comfortable and standard position)
I’m sure there are others, but I can’t think of them…
Good luck!!
Later.
September 26, 2010 at 1:55 pm #28569briderdtParticipantTake a look at the V-strom, Triumph Tiger, BMW FG800…
September 27, 2010 at 7:27 pm #28571JtownJJAParticipantfor my next bike. A sport-bike look alike, but not with the riding position of a super-sport. If you haven’t already seen it, here is a link to a previous post of mine that talks about 3 bikes that fit this category.
September 28, 2010 at 4:26 am #28573namvette68ParticipantI like that Yamaha FZ6R. It has the better of both worlds, and looks good too! In the end, the wallet makes the final decision.
September 28, 2010 at 2:02 pm #28575JtownJJAParticipantbut often true.
October 9, 2010 at 6:21 pm #28615WeaponZeroParticipantOf the available options presented I’d go with the SV650S due to the large aftermarket and sportiest base performance of the middleweight ones.
If you’ve got some riding experience under your belt also look into the Kawasaki Z1000 or 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 (basically a Z1000 with a fairing).
And then there’s the Triumph Street Triple. Mmmmmm. Juicy.
