Hey Everyone! Just thought i would say hi to you all. I have been reading alot of the articles on this site and its giving me alot of information! I am a beginner, saving up for my first bike now but having trouble deciding on which one is right! I wont have my bike until next ridin season, but i figured the more knowledge and info i can gather the better! Anyways, just saying hi!!

Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today…… is a Bi**h
September 11, 2008 at 12:09 pm #11978LongRangerParticipantHi back to ya from a fellow St. Louisan. Glad you found this board, it really does help from starting from zero. Have you been able to take a MMOP/MSF course yet or are you wanting until you find a motorcycle? Good luck on your bike hunt, have fun and be safe.
September 11, 2008 at 4:05 pm #11994babygirlParticipantYeah, it is good to be on a forum where everyone is very helpful!!! It does suck i have to wait till next season, but it will be worth it. By the way, i love your quote “Yesturday is a memory, tomorrow is a prediction, but today is a bit*h” Its very true! Thanks for the warm welcome!
September 11, 2008 at 4:46 pm #12001babygirlParticipantHey right back at ya st.louisan!! Its awesome to meet new people from the area! I just registered today for a MSF course in October. I was going to wait, but they said the completion cards do not expire. So even if i dont get to get a bike till next year, this will still be good. Im kind of nervous since i have never driven a bike, just rode. I know how to drive a stick though. Do you think its silly to go in these classes with never being a driver on one?? i figured thats what they are for though!
September 12, 2008 at 12:23 pm #12050LongRangerParticipantYou’re right that is what they are for. You don’t need to have experience to take the course, its starts off slow to give you a feel for the bike before the more difficult tasks start. I had my bike for 2 months before the course and being impatient I began riding it around the neighborhood and then progressively further from my home as I became more confident on it. I think that having that experience before the course helped me do better in the course and maybe get a little bit more out of it, but it was not needed to take and pass the class. There were a few other people in my class that were new to motorcycles and they all passed the class, the only people who did not pass had prior experience.
I took my course though the St. Louis County Parks since all the community college courses were full untill after November. It was a 2 day course instead of the 3 day offered by the colleges or 4 days in the rider’s edge from a Harley dealer, but they were long days. I think a 3 day course would be better than the 2 day course. Where are you taking your course?September 12, 2008 at 4:41 pm #12059babygirlParticipantIm taking my course through St. Charles parks. It is only a 2 day course 8am-5pm each day. Im mentally ready for it, im sure they will both be long days!! Yeah, i wish i had my own bike now because i would probably do the same as you did. I would feel alot more comfortable going into the course if i had time to at least get on a bike and drive it, even if its only in a parking lot. I wanted to get on a few of my buddys bikes to at least get comfortable on it as a driver, but all of their bikes are too big for me. im only 5’3 and 110lbs, so once i do get a bike im sure i will probably have to lower it or something along those lines. But i hear that lowering them makes the bike feel a little different, so im not sure. Also, since you already have taken the course, do you know if there is an expiration date on your course completion card???? That was a big question for me and the people i talked to at the park said they are pretty sure there is not an expiration date. Anyways, thankyou for all your help and info! What kind of bike do you have??
September 12, 2008 at 5:34 pm #12063LongRangerParticipantI have a 2000 virago 250cc. I am 6′ and 200 lbs so it is a little small for my size but I am comfortable on it and it has been easy to handle and powerful enough for my commute to work (side roads and some highway riding) but since I get 85 mpg with the bike its hard to give that up for a bigger bike.
My course completion certificate has no expiration date on it and the instructors said to ensure that we didnt lose that card because it would be impossible to replace it. I assume it does not expire, but if you are worried about that, just go and get your motorcycle endorsement on you license after you complete the course. You will not have to take the written or driving portions after you have completed the course. Just take your card to the DoR license fee office (no need to go the highway patrol testing office) and pay the $8 fee then you won’t have to worry about losing the card or any expiration.September 12, 2008 at 10:15 pm #12081babygirlParticipantRight on! Thankyou for all the advice! My classes arent until the end of october so i will let you know how it went!!
