So, I had a strange experience last Friday…
In the afternoons at work, I spend a few minutes bs-ing with one of the guys about jiu-jitsu. Yesterday, I was bemoaning the fact that I wasn’t going to be able to train that evening because I am still getting over a cold and it made three Fridays in a row that I have been off the mat.
This led to a discussion about me not training last weekend because I was taking the BRC again.
Which in turn led to my friend again expressing his bemusement at me riding a motorcycle… Apparently, he finds the thought of me on a bike to be just as incongruous as he found me in a gi the first time he saw me in class. But all of this aside…
One of the other guys heard me talking about the BRC and said that his wife had told him that he couldn’t have a dog but he could get a bike so he was going to get a gixxer… I said “a gixxer? – have you ever ridden a bike?” …. “oh, well, yah, a dirt bike when I was a little kid.”
So we talked bikes… and beginner bikes. It was strange to find myself to be the resident “expert” on bikes- and when they asked why he shouldn’t get a gixxer for his first bike- I actually had an intelligent answer- more than just “you’ll kill yourself”. (Thank you guys!) When they asked about the BRC, I knew why to take it and how it is helpful.
So I think I talked two of the guys into taking the BRC (whether they decide to buy bikes or not) and I talked the one into starting with something a little smaller.
Anyway- knowledge is power, and it is really cool to be able to talk about guy things with the guys…

I mean, even with the reinforced knees and double weave fabric for the shoulders, they just wouldn’t hold up in a slide. And with the cold, damp summer that we have had… no wind or rain protection…
I don’t know what I was thinking…
