Various Honda Nighthawks

I’m taking my BRC class in Rhode Island (just moved here), in the middle of September, and I’ve been perusing craigslist lately. I’ve noticed quite a few late 80’s/early 90’s Honda Nighthawks for sale. A lot of 600/700/700sc’s around. What’s the story on these bikes? It looks like a lot of them are 4 cylinder bikes, I’m just wondering how they ride, they must be dependable or there wouldn’t be that many around that look to be in such good shape.

Are they suitable for beginners or are they really quick, I’m just not sure how they’re geared, some of them are even shaft drive. Anyone have experience with these?

Exceptionally smooth, almost no vibration at all on these babys
but they are quite quick and somewhat torquey

Not sure if I would recommend for an absolute beginner, but someone with a bit of riding under their belt will have no problems.

    …the upper level Nighthawks again.

Like a lot of people, I rode the 250 version in the MSF course, and for a bargain basement bike, I was impressed. Very smooth, and felt extremely well put together (esp. compared to the, er, “domestic” build quality of my Buell). I love the look of them too…high-tech streamlined body with old-school spoked wheels.

I’d buy a bigger engined one if Honda would make it.
