Two newbalicious questions

The first question is for all you sport bike riders out there. It’s an awkward topic, so if you can’t handle all things anatomical, skip to #2. Here’s the deal: due to the forward slant of the seat on my Ninja, sustained riding tends to cause a nasty frontal wedgie from sliding even tiny bits forward on the seat. This can go from mildly uncomfortable to downright painful, especially going down steep hills with controlled speed. Any suggestions for avoiding this nut-buster?

The second question is specifically for Ben (if he’s around). I also use a Chrome Metropolis bag to carry things while riding, but I haven’t found an especially comfortable way to keep it from sliding around on more aggressive turns. What do you do to secure your bag?

I found myself tending to ride forward on my bike when I first started (a Suzuki SV650s, a little more upright than your Ninja). What I found was that I wasn’t using my knees against the bike enough, and that was allowing me to slide forward. Try clamping the bike a little tighter with your knees and see if that helps.

I’ve definitely discovered this to one extent or another over the past few days. It seems like I just have to get myself into a good position and then squeeze the knees to keep from sliding forward. Thanks for the confirmation :)

What kind of ninja you got? I’ve never heard of the stock seating positions of the sv650s being more upright than the ninja 250/500/650r. I’ve sat on all them bikes and those ninjas are more upright than the sv. I’ve sat on Ben’s bike and his even felt more upright, but his bike was modded a bit.

Body wise, using your core to keep your upper body in position and the weight off your wrists, gripping the tank with your knees, and foot position with the your heels against the heel guards and balls of feet on the foot pegs can all help from sliding all over the place. Look into getting tank grips like stompgrip or techspec to help with keeping your knees from sliding around and off the tank.

Any of the ZX Ninja’s will have lower hand positions (maybe not to relevant on the BBM board though). My SVs has Heli Bars clip-ons, which is considerably higher than the stock clipons, and the naked SV is higher still.
