Torque and Stalling

I think Elwood mentioned that he has never stalled his HD Sportster because of the torque. I’m having a bit of trouble stalling my GS500 coming off a stop, even though I didn’t have a problem with this on the Rebel I used at class. Is this because of torque? I got away with just easing out the clutch and then applying the gas on the rebel and it was fine, but now I’m just trying to find the balance on my GS500. It’s frustrating stalling the bike. I ease the clutch out, but that’s not enough. The gas (and acceleration) needs to be right too. I know I just need to practice more.

ShannonG? This bike hates life under 3500rpm? So do you open the throttle a bit at a red, and then let the clutch out slow?

I have a sprocket adjustment on my bike for lower RPMs. This makes starting out a little tougher on mine. Just keep working at it and you will find the sweet spot.

Practice stopping and starting in a parking lot. Thats how I got better. what also helped was that I can now here the engine noise change when it hits the biting point. Thats where the clutch starts to slip. As soon as I hear that I roll on the throttle and keep slowly releasing the clutch. Practice makes perfect.
