So as some of you know I’ve been waiting for my bike to get shipped up here and have been going crazy since the initial deposit. Well like normal ( or so I think) I’ve been pulling out my gear every chance I get and check it out go over it figure out what to wear underneath etc. when to my amazement I seem to overlook a zipper on the back waist of my textile pants. I looked under the back side of my jacket and voila! a zipper as well. I put the two together and figured out the idea behind it. My question about my recent discovery is, with such a small closure (the zippers are only about 10-12 in. long) is if it’s meant to keep air out, protect your backside, or both? If it is for protection how much does it really afford?

Not to mention saving the drivers behind you from seeing what “crack” your riding on….lol… since the on set of baggy, pocket at the knee, can’t run in them, pants came out…. yea alot of cracks on the road now days.

It not only keeps the jacket and pants in position in case of a crash, it also helps keep your jacket from riding up — something that can happen if your hands are held high or you’re leaned over — and getting all bunched up around the neck or shoulders. My jacket also has a single strap that can be tucked under a belt, so it serves the same purpose if you wear jeans.

I have said zipper on my gear, I ALWAYS do it up. Keeps both the jacket from riding up (can happen when leaned forward) and keeps the pants from moving down (happens all the time on long trips or when hunched forward).

That little zipper is a wonderful thing (doubly so in the rain).
