I’ve been thinking about the weekend of Jul. 26, either the saturday or sunday. I’ve kinda also got a 1/2 suggestion for a route, which would take us through the east bay… Basically, 237 -> calaveras -> 84 to livermore -> mebbe a stop at wentes for a break -> (vineyard -> through pleasanton to foothill rd … or … continue onto 84/airway blvd -> 580 N -> dublin blvd./dougherty -> bollinger canyon) -> crow canyon -> castro valley…

From there we can either go down eden canyon back to foothill -> sunol/niles canyon and back down to either calaveras -> 237 or just go home via 680 south/whatever. or go back down calaveras to 237 from foothill rd. and go home from there.

Been on calaveras a few times and I think it’s a fun road. It’s a slow, narrow road with a lot of equestrian farms and a lot of decreasing radius turns. 84 to livermore is also fun except for the popo and some construction areas where traffic seems to slow down during midday. Vineyard’s a fun road as well, but that takes you through downtown pleasanton which is busy with pedestrians and slow traffic and pleasanton popo. Crow canyon to castro valley is a really fun road as well with a lot of sweepers.

Comments, suggestions, thoughts? This is a longish kind of ride which lends itself to a morning start time… Anyone interested?

    long rides are fun :P

I might be busy that weekend tho, how about this weekend?

Another fun ride I did in the west-bay last weekend was 280 to 84 (La Honda) to 1 (along the coast, stopped at a beach) to Prescadero to Alpine to Skyline to 9…

alternatively, you could go all the way to Santa Cruz on the 1 and come up 17… since there are a lot of deaths on Skyline/9 :(

here is a link to the route I am talking about:

I’ll be at laguna seca this weekend… https://www.bestbeginnermotorcycles.com/forum/forum-topic/923/extra-red-bull-2008-laguna-seca-tickets

Got an extra ticket for sunday. Anyone? ;-)

I’m just trying to get feelers right now… Choice of routes would still be open. Whatever route most people would want to do is fine by me. I guess, let’s just see what dates people are free at and see if we can find an intersection of the different dates. Basically, after this weekend, my weekends are pretty free. (-:

Aren’t you moving from wisconsin to california? Well hurry up dude. It’s fun to meet other bikers and I can tell you from our first group ride, the riders in cali on this forum are fun to ride with and totally safe.

yep, I’ll be moving late spring, early summer ’09, gf’ll get her BS, and then off to Berkley (or stanford…) for her Dr. she grew up in the bay area, so after moving out to chicagoland so I could “go back home” I conceded the next move would be her choice. and after talking to my buddy who was watching out cats while we spent christmas, while standing out in the street in a t-shirt, and him telling me about the snow and freezing cold they were suffering from…well…it was easier to agree ;) only thing is, she needs to finish the school here first.

Had a company offsite to Santa Cruz today. Took Saratoga/9 to Highway 1 South/Ocean Ave. to the boardwalk. Didn’t feel like taking the company shuttle. It’s an awesomely fun road. A lot of switchbacks and twisties. Unfortunately, me riding on my own and on a schedule on that stretch of 9 for the first time, I missed every single vista point… So no pics… I will get pics next time though. Interestingly light morning traffic and light afternoon rush hour traffic via 17 back. A lot of small, quaintish towns along the way. That could be part of another possible route.
