I really like my motorcycle, its a 2001 ZX6R. It’s fast, it’s fun, it can handle just about everything I throw at it. A few weeks ago when I had an experience where I almost crashed I thought, “Hmm… which bike would I get if I totaled this one and I had to get another one?”

The thing is, I really like my ZX6R. It is the best looking bike I’ve seen, but I would want to try something new instead of just rebuying a early 2000’s ZX6R. It might be cool to go up to a 1000cc bike like an RC51, or SV1000, or maybe even a Honda SuperHawk, but the gas mileage on those bikes kills me! Last I checked the superhawk only gets like 30mpg, and it has an extremely small gas tank which means I would be filling it up all the time.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that I would seriously consider stepping down from the 600’s and maybe going back to a 500cc bike, or even a 250. A 500 would be able to do everything my 600 can and it would get even better gas mileage (my bike right now gets about 40-45 mpg).

Anyway, just musing over some potential ideas if the worst case scenario happens. What does everyone here think? Are you eager to jump on a bigger bike, or do you like the bike you have right now?

hrm… I can say that for me personally, I have no desire to go up to a litre bike. My sv650s is my forever bike. It does everything I need, want, or look for it to do. Good gas mileage too. About 50 mpg. I am toying with buying a used beater 250 bike just for drills and stuff since I’ve been modding the sv650s. I dunno… As far as I can tell, you’ve already done the 250, 500, and 600 cc stuff. A litre bike will do more than is practical legally. The only way I can see you pushing a litre bike is to do track days. I guess, if I was gonna total my bike, I’d still get an sv650sf….

Haven’t had much time on my Ninja 650, but I can’t imagine ever needing or wanting more or less. I’m no speed demon so the 600’s don’t really make me want to change to them before my Ninja is done. I’d never want a liter bike. Plus the Ninja looks awesome, is super comfortable and will hang with the in-line fours in everything aside from long open stretches. I might consider later on a few years (6-8) down the road picking up a 250-500 cruiser just to have a cruiser & sport. I’d say check out the 650’s.

I really like the sport type handling of my bike (95 yam.seca 600) and it’s gas millage being 45-50mpg, but in the event that i had to buy another bike i would maybe get a cruiser style like a Vulcan 500 or a Star 650 simply b/c 90%+ of the sport bike riders in my area take the term “squid” to a whole new level, and i hate being summed up in that category by other riders and by people in general. I’ve never been one to care much about other peoples opinions, esp if they don’t know me, but ppl who ride like they got there brain from the local truck stop toilet really piss me off!

sorry that i turned this post in to a squid hate rant but i love my bike and don’t like being judged 4 it >=/

I love the zx-6r love love love it although the price tag is a bit heavy for new. I would want to get used, either that or a zzr-600 used. I love my 250 but when I upgrade its going to be one of those bikes.

Yep, as I commute on my bike rain or shine, I’ve thought the same thoughts too with gas prices going the way they are.

My <2 year old 800 c.c. Bonnie will be up for replacement soon as it's got about 24,000 miles on it now, and although it's been completely reliable, the two-year Triumph warranty will expire in September.

Thought about a GS500 maybe, but have also been thinking about a Wee Strom (DL650), Versys (if they’re available in CA yet), or even another Bonneville (I like ’em).

Don’t have a need to go any faster than 110 miles an hour, or a death wish, so liter (sport) bikes are out…

i am now on a bonnie as well- I gotta say I thought, oh maybe a larger bike next- but then with gas and the fact that Ive never needed to go faster than the 865 cc’s Ill likely aim for a 500cc next to save even more gas and also there as such peppy bikes out thee it should be fun-
