Hi there,
– So after putting on my helmet, I found that I can’t get my glasses on. They are a somewhat thick plastic frame. I may have to wear my old wire-frame glasses. I don’t like contacts. Maybe I’ll have to get lasik surgery to be free from glasses finally!
– Since I got a solid color helmet (the store didn’t have a great variety), I want to dress it up a little. More than likely I’ll order a couple decals to stick on there. Anyone want to share pics of their own prettied up helmets?
– I found out that the BRC class I’m taking next month requires over-the-ankle shoes. All my shoes are low-top! After investing a lot into the other gear, I don’t want to dish out another hundred bucks or so for biking boots. Do you think high-top sneakers or hiking shoes would be good enough?
Thanks!

But for actual riding I’d invest in a pair of these http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=1759 or something along those lines. protection cant be matched for the price. Also they’re 20% off the listed price. I own a pair myself. LOOOOOVE THEM!

I bought a Sparx helmet online (nobody sold it locally) that I loved the look of…after receiving it and trying it on, I was quite annoyed to find that my glasses utterly would not fit…and mine are wire-framed.
So now I have a spare helmet should I start taking passengers.
What helmet do you have? I’m guess a HJC of some sort.

As for the glasses, I’m assuming youre putting on the helmet, lifting the visor, and then trying to put your glasses in, right? That may sound like an obvious question, but you never know. Your helmet may have different padding options to look into (i know Icon does). You might even be able to cut small grooves in the padding to allow your glasses to slide in, if youre desparate.
I’ve never decorated my helmet, but I did put some reflective tape on there… you can get it in a lot of colors and it looks cool, also helps with visibility. You could even try painting it if youre feeling crazy lol

I never heard of MSF not recommending steel toes. Do you know if their reasoning is that you don’t get enough of a feel for the shifter, or that the steel can actually do more harm than good? Before I got motorcycle specific boots I wore a pair of Wolverine steel toe hiking boots. Never had any problem with the feel of the shifter, as where my foot contacts the shift pedal is behind the steel toe, and as far as steel toes actually being less safe than regular boots, thankfully I never put them to the test, however, that theory has been disproved many times, most notably on the TV show Mythbusters.

Before I got my SHIFT boots, i just used a pair of black work boots, although they werent steel toe, i didnt have any problems with them either. But nothing beats an actual pair of motorcycle intended boots. I still dont get how people ride with just sneakers, or even flip flops!

Yep, you got it. I am able to fit my old wire-frame glasses after putting the helmet on. I’ll see if I can “modify” the padding at all to allow my plastic-frame glasses to slide in. Otherwise, the oldie moldies will have to do.
EDIT: Oops, forgot to mention that I have an HJC CL-16 helmet.

It will however over time loose (a little) on the sides, so maybe use your old glasses for now, and then after a month or two, try your current ones.
