Hi guys-
I’ve been browsing several forums and I frequently come back to this one as its very educational and low key. So I finally started an account because well I lurk enough AND I am having more questions and I need answers!
So- I live in Jersey (bleck) and I’ve had Sophia for almost a month now. Every time I walk by I have to touch her because I can’t believe she is actually mine. Its been a dream of mine to get a bike for probably 2 or 3 years and its finally happened.
I took the MSF course in August and started saving for gear and a bike and finally found an 04 Honda CBR on ebay and made a steal on it. My best friend an I had been looking for a while (she also took the course) and we picked them both up on the same day (she got a 2000 CBR).And I’ve (we’ve) have been riding and reading as much as possible (and pissing off all the old crotchedy condo neighbors) in the parking lots and back roads.
And I love every second of it!

I hope things go well with you there, they are most certainly not one of the bikes anyone on this site would recommend to a new rider. Very hard to learn the basic fundamentals of riding on a bike like that. But hoping for the best for you

I’d rather take the flak about having that bike than try to BS it and play nice. I’m a straight shooter like that.
its got nice brakes and is very responsive and I can feel when I booble something- which is much like my horse- small and efficient and very responsive to rider ainput good or bad.
My two biggest things I’ve been focusing on is stopping and smooth throttle application through my starts and through the turns- which I do a lot of since its a small parking lot!

While, as Eon points out, it may not be the best choice for a first bike, what really matters is that you approach it with an open mind and the right attitude. It sounds like you made it first the first few weeks, just watch out for when your confidence comes up in the next few months and pass your skill level.
Best!
