ParticipantThis took place a couple of weeks ago. I meant to post it then, but got tied up. But it really brings home the point of how quickly things can turn bad regardless of who you are or how conspicuous you may be …
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Colorado Springs police officer on motorcycle patrol has survived a crash that threw him 45 feet.
Officials say Sgt. Philip LaBeau was thrown from his Honda police motorcycle early Saturday when an SUV turned left in front of him. LaBeau hit the side of the Kia and was thrown over the top of the vehicle. LaBeau has multiple facial injuries and a broken leg, but he is in fair condition. The driver of the Kia has been charged with vehicular assault and driving under the influence.March 26, 2010 at 5:38 pm #25202JackTrade

ParticipantYou see WAY to much of that. People always talk about cell phone use and texting, but I see just as much of the shifting through papers or jotting down notes while driving. This is particularly true of contractors and construction types. They are always conducting business on the commute from one job to the next. I had a friend who did some computer contracting. He was constantly on the cell phone jotting down notes and going back and forth between pages and papers in a notebook while he drove. That could just as easily have been him plowing into someone.
