SM bike for beginner?

Hey I’m a new rider whose already taken the MSF course.

    I’m 5-9 138lbs and 31y/o

My goal is to ride a 600cc sport bike and maybe learn some dirt riding.

I heard dirt bikes are a good way to start learning because you learn about regaining traction control and balancing.
I don’t want to get a pure dirt bike so I was looking at super motard bikes which I can throw dirt tires on.

Before I was thinking of the DRZ400 SM. However I think it is a bit big for a bike.
I came across the WR250 X (yamaha). It is still a tall bike and I have to stand on my tip toes.
I personally don’t like this tip toe feeling, however maybe if I lower the bike it will be closer to flat foot.

So my question is a SM a good bike to learn on?

The other kind of bike I was looking at was an old Honda cb 350 or something.

I also saw the new kawasaki 250. But I don’t know much about it and nor did the dealer.
It is a shorter bike than the WR250 X.

AFAIK, from what SuperMotard’s experience is, learning on a dual sport just as good as learning on a street bike. But if you’re really wanting a sports bike, just get a sports bike, imo. Oh yeah, welcome to the forums and glad to see you. (-:
